Is it possibble to...

install Oblivion, or any game onto a HD instead of SSD? Would it work? The reason I'm asking this as recently I installed OB and all necessary stuff like UOP, Wrye Bash/Bain,, Boss and OBSE plus SI, and it filled up most of the SSD (500) alarmingly fast. That's just one game, without COBL or any other mods.

I took the PC to my local, friendly computer shop and they did a reinstall of W7, cleared off a lot of Windows old stuff that it keeps plus a lot of unnecessary stuff I don't need. They did a good job and left me with more space on the SSD than I'd had to start with.

However, now I'm scared to install anything I used to use, like Firefox. I'm just using whatever comes with Windows. Their several hundred updates have probably used space as well.

I don't honestly know if a slight increase in speed is worth all this. I'm beginning to think about doing without the SSD altogether. I saw on-line someone saying how their SSD had filled up completely after installing Skyrim, someone answered by saying 'uninstall it then'.

Any information will be appreciated, thanks.

It seems to me that you only want to install things on the SSD that will actually benefit from its faster loading speed. That would be the Operating System (which you have there), and possibly demanding modern games like Oblivion and Skyrim.

You would not want to install things like Firefox there, because the SSD won't help a browser much at all.

i can't imagine oblivion taking up 500gb of SSD unless you're using all ultraHD textures. my oblivion folder is barely over 10GB with everything you listed.

Hello, Glargg. Thanks for your reply. So, Firefox would still work on the hard drive? I might try it, although Internet Explorer isn't as bad as I thought it would be, (as it was in the past).

You may be right about OB and Skyrim needing the SSD. I suppose I'll have to find out about this stuff by trial and error !.

gjerkson; It wasn't the full 500GB, just over three quarters, but I think that's too much for just one game. Perhaps this time after the re-install and the clear out it had it might not be so bad. The fellow who did the re-install said he had about 10 games on his SSD which is about half the size of mine. That made my mind boggle!
