Is it possible to add trees to the Wasteland and other areas

Post » Fri Dec 02, 2011 9:11 pm

Hi, i have been fiddling around with the G.E.C.K and want to know if it possible to plot trees in areas in Fallout 3. If this is possible, how do I do it? And also, is it possible to edit the Wasteland as a whole rather than small areas of it?
Thanks

To edit the wasteland as a whole, the only thing you can do is change stuff like land height (and possibly texture?) with the Heightmap editor. As for adding trees, just load the geck and load Fallout3.esm then find a tree like maple01 in the object window then load into the spot you want in the wasteland, and click and drag the tree into the render window and move it into place. Then do this 400000 times to cover the wasteland in trees. There already is a mod that adds tree's to the entire wasteland, I think it is called Greenworlds. Try looking it up on the nexus. hahaha hmmm 40,000 times seems a bit tedious. And ah ok that's what i thought! Is that the same with Megaton and all the other big towns, that you cannot actually edit them as a whole? And yeh I will definately get that mod, it was more if i wanted to add trees myself then I was just curious how i would go about it

Greenerworld does it in a good and scaleable way. Find it on Nexus.

I used the Greenerworld tree object to tree-up a little worldspace that I am using for Phalanx. Wasteland already comes with trees.

It replaces a wasteland shrub object with a tree.

problem with it is it doesnt update the LOD, so looking off in the distance, you only see dead trees. real shame cus id love to use one such mod, but lack of LOD is a deal breaker for me.

I wouldn't know where to start in editing the LOD to add greenerworld type trees wherever the right shrub appears. But maybe it is somehow possible.

...... I guess someone should get started..

It is _possible_ but not highly practical, it would require a an external shell script to run on the PC to handle moving the files around after the LOD was generated - but even that would require the user to load the GECK and that mod, have it place the trees in the worldspace and then generate the LOD - after which the script could help.

Given the complexity and the time required to generate world LOD, I don't think it practical that this could be done in a Fully automated way without alot of coding.

Tarrant is right in that Few have done world LOD successfully, I think the current Active forum member that knows the most about it is TheMagician. He had a LOD thread going here for some time, but even with that I have not to date seen a Thorough process for generating world LOD though I would Love to have one myself!
