Possible Bethesda games

Post » Fri Apr 08, 2011 4:41 am

Bethesda has made loads of awesome games. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas for other games. Personally I would love for them to carry on the Vampire: The Masqurade series. They could easily do this due to the world of darkness background in call of Cthulhu. Any thoughts or suggestions?

My head a splode with wrongness. Cthulhu is not part of the World of Darkness, the CoC game was not made by Bethesda, this would be a decision White Wolf really wouldn't make, and... Whoa. Total disagreement here.

Bethesda publish Call of Cthulhu, not develop it.

And in respect, I would guess that Tim Cain (lead programmer of Vampire: The Masqurade) would not like to see one of his other creation tainted by Bethesda, like what happen to Fallout.

I wish there were more VtM games, and made by a good developer studio. I think Bethesda Game Studios is doing well with the TES series. There are plenty of other great developers who could revive died-out series - but they'd have to cough up money for licensing rights, if the rights are even up for sale. :(

EDIT: I wish there was a company that went around and provided support for old games - like making new patches and stuff. The community does a wonderful effort, but without the source code, many efforts aren't as complete as they could be, especially with hard-coded bugs and problems. Bethesda gave the green-light for the Morrowind Code Patch, which fixes .exe bugs. But, many of the developers that made those great old games have been dissolved/gone under/are no longer in business. Does the original publisher now own the rights to the game? I don't know.

as I was mentioning, a bunch of people with the green-light from publishers and devs to provide support for the old games (and in return get a % cut of new sales profits of that game) would be a dream come true. Or if the publishers/devs with the rights would stop being so selfish and just divulge the source code. It isn't like a decade-old game is still their main money-maker anymore!

Agreed.

Bethesda/Arkane Studios released the source code and an additional patch fixing some problems with Windows 7 for Arx Fatalis. That was nice of them.

It sure would be nice if Eidos did the same for Thief/System Shock 2. The community appears to still be fairly active.

I don't think Bethesda should pick up yet another game series. Their plate is full with TES and Fallout. Though I'd love to see one of the companies Zenimax bought to work on a Call of Cthulhu sequel, since Headfirst went bankrupt.

Not that he would have a choice in the matter.

Anyway, didn't White wolf discontinue the Old World of Darkness source books? I'm guessing any video game properties they want to get developed would be under the New World of Darkness property.

Open world city environment, But its full of zombies.

there would be multiple branching storylines based off the choices you made.

You would have the option of joining one of the several gangs that used to run the city, you can help the poor survivors defend themselves from the infection and the gangs, or just go it alone.

your main goal is finding a way out of the Large barricades the government has used to contain the virus.

There would be RPG elements, you can specialize in skills in 1 of the 4 categories

Survival- in this section, you can raise run speed, the length of time you can sprint for, the length of time you can go without eating and allows you to cook recipes

Firearms- raises accuracy with all firearms, increases reload speed, and some other things.

Strength- allows you to carry other survivors, increases damage with Melee weapons, the ability to counter grapple zombies (when they grab you, you could push them off you easier, further, and even kill them)

Charisma- allows you to travel with other survivors, unlocks other speech options, allows you to barter with gangs and survivors for food and ammunition.

cloths also give bonuses, like increased ammo capacity, or slightly increased health.

in my head i see it being 3rd person, but it doesn't have to be.

Preferably a proper Fallout: NV, since I think obsidian completely [censored] the game. :)
But seriously. I'd LOVE another Fallout game in the Style of Fallout 3.... best.. game... ever...

to me both games had there ups in down.

my favorite fallout has to be 2 though.

i seriously think Obsidian should do the writing and come up with the ideas for quests, and bethesda should design the game.

I agree 100% with this.

Bethesda already got enough on their plate with FO and TES, but I did really like Spectre's idea.

I am actually surprised there are no open world zombie games.

yes i heard about that, but im not to enthusiatic about it being turn based, (not that i dont like turn based) I wanted to see something in real time, because that gives more of a sense of stress.

and i would want it to focus more on exploration.

I really like SpEcTrE's zombie apocalypse RPG idea. I also wouldn't mind seeing an open-world Mars RPG or something, kinda like Red Faction.

If that happened, I think we would have a perfect game on our hands. Obsidian's writing and quests would be amazing, and Bethesda's art exploration and others factors would probably make it to being the closest possible you could get to perfection.

They did discontinue it, and that's what lead Activision to rush Troika through the creation of Bloodlines - thinking that it would not sell any longer. Idiots.

Anyway, there's a WoW MMO in development by CCP, creators of EVE Online, and they received the license to do it long after the old WoD was canned, yet the game will be based on the old one.

Eh, less PR, more good game design and writing, I say. Look at Minecraft, and what it did to it!

Yes, amazing writing in Minecraft. :P

Seriously though, I'm expecting good writing with Brian Mitsoda on it. Can't wait.

Uh, yeah, that was more about the design and PR thing. :hehe:

Of that we can be sure. Also Annie, being responsible for one of the most wonderful moments in Storm of Zehir. I'll let everyone discover that for themselves.

Wait, she's Annie Mitsoda now? When the heck did that happen?

Oh, I thought we were done with the "Bethesda should develop the next _______ game, despite not owning the IP for it, and having two successful IPs to work with as it is! threads. If they were to do something other than Fallout/TES, I'd hope they'd at least have the originality and creativity to not just pick up someone else's game.

As for the open-world zombie RPG idea... "Meh". Never bought into the whole zombie thing, and now it's just another boring cliché.
