Possible character creation ideas.

I do hope Fallout Online has very in-depth character creation. I want them to institute a radiation level meter on your character at character creation. For instance: unexposed vault dweller------->full on ghoul.

-What are your ideas?-

I'm not so sure I like the idea of players being able to play as ghouls. In Fallout you have always been a human, and the fact that someone will, inevitably, spend their days as a ghoul running around naked in town is not very appealing either... Not to be a prude or anything, but a naked radiation burn victim trying to jiggle his stuff in front of me... I'd have to pass on that.

Seriously though, I hope for a quite detailed character creation system. I always disliked online games where the majority of the population look similar. A creation system where you can make your character look really unique would be highly appreciated. A perk system would also help to make your character have a unique feel I suppose, though from what I gathered glancing around the forum it seems Perks might be given to you automatically based on your choices during character creation. Which is not a bad idea, as long as you can't put it into a system, i.e people all ending up with the same, superior perk.

Just rambling on, I should wrap it up.

Rad resistance could be a passive skill, its true.

I can imagine its benefits for an inquisitive scavenging person who would scour heavy-rad areas.

Yes, that would be a way to put perks into an MMO. But hopefully they have a way to balance out with different perks so they don't have that one "superior perk".

Well, there's always going to be a superior talent/trait/perk/spell/passive/etc.

But I think you mean nothing brutally overpowered, and in that sense I agree.

Well you shouldn't get anything brutally overpowered just by making a character. Minor edges and minor hindrances, like traits in the original fallout possibly.

Yeah, like I said, I thought that might have been the original intent of that post, you're right.

on the topic of "Possible character creation ideas" i am voting for fully customizable char, its might be shallow but in my opinion a huge part in the generic world of MMO goes in to how your char looks differently then the rest.

i mean the usual hiar style/ tattoos/ cloth/ colors AND different BODY builds, most MMO has exactly the same looking chars yes they got all the above but they body builds are the same, at best they are stretched to be taller but there is no char with big sholders and huge "guns" or the slim looking char the normal build the female build etc...

I think the potential to be a vault dweller right down to ghouls or a mutant is great.

NPC reactions can vary and things like karma could eventually let even ghouls into area's previously banned.

I think it would be pretty lame actually if they limited character creation to vault dwellers alone. In the Fallout series, not all mutants and ghouls were crazed and evil.

Yeah and have ghouls only or mutant only areas that "normies" have to talk their ways into.

I want a robust character creation process. My biggest gripe about online games is the sense of individuality. As far as perks and traits I would like to see some that give you a big bonus but a big side-effect as well. Well by big I don't mean dramatic game changer. For example plus 15% rad resist but -5 or 10% physical resist. Where as a non side-effect perk or trait would be +5% rad resist.

If they were to give the option of other "Races" like ghouls and Mutants, I think that they should make sure that the experience as those characters is entirely unique. Mutant wouldn't experience things the same way a ghoul or a human would. And maybe this could also offer the opportunity for even more races, like Robots. They could be unique in the sense that they are healed by the Repair or Science skills. And they need to buy and 'Upgrade' in order to level up. It would certainly add new dynamics to the rather straightforward MMO leveling systems. "I don't want to set the world on fire...."
That would be pretty redundant at this point

Yeah, but you'd need to have some kind of explanation as to why it's operating on it's own. *ahem* "Free will" And not on some kind of programming... It would give perks like "Robotics Expert" a whole new twist too... Since, couldn't a robot just be fixed up and put back together? Or does it really "Die"? "I don't want to set the world on fire...."

Well, Possibluh, you could be a robobrain or something with ZAX software? And dying would be getting destroyed and repawning would make sense, you get repaired.

Still there aren't many robots in the world left :P but could be an option in the game, turn your character into a robot :) just give him a few disabilities like he cannot use any stimpaks anymore, or there are some guns the robot cant use due to the robotic arms/hands. People/quests respond differently.

On the positive side you might get + resistance in many places, like normal dmg, plasma etc, maybe even add more platings to the bot, iunno, just speculations. Image

In my opinion, in depth character customization is a leg up on some mmos. having the ability to make your character truly unique is something I think would make a player want to play.

I hope there are no vault dwellers. Maybe we could meet some as we travel but really they should all live in vaults. Too many of them walking around the wastes and they simply don't live up to their name.

How about in character creation, we have the option to choose what vault we are from and the number we choose is on the outfit of that persons character.
e.g. Character Name: John Smith
Vault: 649

Another idea is mabye give player the option to write a bio of their character with stuff like, what they used to do in the vault or how they left/escaped. It gives a good chance for people to create the story of their character and people might find it interesting to read.
