Well, if you're just trying to play the game without pulling triggers (or pushing buttons, as it's a game), having a follower run along with you and operate the killing devices would work.

But if your goal is to not cause the death of your opponent, having your gal/guy/robot/doggie buddy do your dirty work for you doesn't absolve you of responsibility for what they do. You hired, or bought, or befriended them and brought them along, so you are responsible for the damage they do. You could send them away at any time, so by keeping them around, you are agreeing to them killing for you.

...Which is AWESOMELY FUN, of course, unless you are trying to roleplay the non-lethal character. It would be a fun mod to be able to choose a knockout punch option-- you'd have some time to run, but you'd have to fight the bad guy again on your way back, or they'd come after you. That would make for some hectic scrambling. :ahhh:

Honestly, why one would want to do such a pointless thing is beyond me. If you have a problem gunning things down, this is not the game for you. This game was intentionally designed to make you WANT to kill things, have fun while doing it, and drool over the almost infinite ways you can decapitate/maim/impale your hapless victims. That is one of the major draws to the game. Why people go out of their way to do the exact opposite of the intention of the developers is a mystery to me. If you wish to play a game with no death I suggest Hello Kitty Island Adventures.

Almost everything you do in this game results in somethings death, in one way or the other. And while you may not be directly responsible, their deaths are on your hands.

When you first leave vault 101 two innocent residents are gunned down. Did you shoot them, no. But had you stayed put they would not have died.
When you you go to tranquility lane you kill the residents in some fashion or another.
When you go to the Jefferson Memorial with pops you HAVE to clear it of super mutants. Letting your follower do the dirty work does not absolve you as you brought them along knowing and expecting them to do the killing for you.
When you get to eden and shut him down, you kill A LOT of Enclave soldiers. You ARE directly responsible for ALL their deaths. You initiated the self destruct sequence.
When you retake the purifier you kill even more soldiers, regardless of the fact Liberty Prime is the one doing all the work. He is working under the results of intel you provided. You led him to kill.

Simply by advancing the game you are an instrument of death.

No, you can NOT get through the game without killing. But you can get through it without firing more than 2 shots. They are not the same thing. And you are still responsible for numerous deaths.

My friend Sesame has completed Escape with no vault casualties including Tom and Mary Holden.

Or you could let him live as I always do. A stealthy character can also sneak up to his sentry bots and shut them down before they have the opportunity to kill the soldiers they are targeting. Deactivated robots are not the same as destroyed robots. Sneak to the exit door and you're home free. The few soldiers outside are easy to get past.

This is true. But it also defeats the purpose of the game. There are no ways to comically incapacitate your enemies. Only bring them their demise.

I'm going to be honest with you, if never considered not killing Eden...if it's that easy to get him to self destruct. Once America gets back on it's feet, assuming it does and even if it doesn't, what's to keep somebody else from getting him to re-destroy it? He had to go he just can't be trusted, but I may let him live just to see the outcome of it next time.

Yeah, shooting 'em being too easy was pretty much my reason for trying out the not-shooting route... it's just more challenging. That's why I love the gameplay mods like FWE, etc-- now I'm back to desperately killing because it's too hard to run, and I'm dying a lot again.

Wha? hmm... how is that accomplished? No one lets you negotiate anything, even though you've known each other all your lives. :(

Yup, they just run off on their own and die. So I'm curious to know how that went down myself. Was it on PC, did you have to use console commands, cause if so that [censored] don't count.

No, he plays on 360. I think he ran interference by distracting the guards and making them chase him instead of killing the others.

That would be my guess as well, ghouls, since if you approach the guards before Tom run in, he instead runs away. They may get distracted by the radroaches in the stairway, but you'll still have to take some hits from Chief Hannon if you want to wait for Amata to kill Officer Mack. Or you could interrupt the interrogation and have potentially two guards shooting at you and another two beating you with high-tech nightsticks, all the way from the jail area to the tunnel, if not all the way to the door.

Once you can buy Charon's contract, he can do what little mandatory killing is necessary (in PPY, for example) and then the rest of the game can be played pacifist. If stealing isn't against the code of ethics for this pacifist character, that's probably the best way to come up with the funds for Charon's contract.
