Possible Custom Weapons?

Post » Sun Sep 19, 2010 10:37 pm

In various dungeons, or lairs, you could find some pieces to a sword, or a bow, and there would be different types, of course. Maybe there could be a elven blade, a glass hilt, etc. Then for bows, different types of strings, the ends of the bow, and so on. Then each feature would have an affect on the weapon, how fast you swung, how fast you draw back the bow, and the opposite, which is the strength of the weapon. Then as you continued farther into the main story-line, there could be parts that were related to the quest that you find them. For example, if this feature was in Oblivion, there would be a magical looking blade, or hilt for a sword, or for when you finished the Dark Brotherhood, there was an evil looking piece.

What does everyone think?

Overpowered, clearly. It'll end up just like custom spell making.

Yes, I could very well see it being overpowered, but I'm sure with how Bethesda is, they could even everything out.

You are able to make your own weapons and armor in Skyrim, just probably not to that extent and in reality, a different hilt wouldn't change the attack speed or anything, the weight and balance of a weapon determines how fast you can swing something. Besides, that would be like the frankenstein claymore and it would look hideous *shudder*

Edit: changed would to wouldn't because I accidentally forgot the n't part hehe.

I know that a hilt wouldn't change how fast, but different blade types, stronger, and lighter versions would affect the weight mostly.

What OP wrote kinda made me cringe for some reason, but I like the idea of customizable weapons and armor.

But doesn't that just defeat the purpose of the whole system you just mentioned? if they blade is a elven short sword, it won't be any faster with other pieces of weapon types. If anything it would just be for vanity reasons and it just doesn't have enough customization to warrant making it.

i wouldn't mind having a smith forge a wep for me out of a list of designs, but mix&match will most times look stupid unless all pieces are made to match to a degree, and all the colours are set to a colour scheme to keep the weapon consistent.
in not sure how much skyrim will be with stats, wether they are trying to make it more immersive by hiding stats or not.
but i wouldnt want the wep to be like the morphing wep on fable unless they could come up with a really smart way to explain it.

I would like it if the different parts of the, lets say sword, have different stats. I think these customizable weapons would create a much more personal relation between weapon and wielder. Weapon parts could be harder to obtain the more powerful they are.
