Possible future mod - Tundra retexture

Post » Mon Aug 01, 2011 11:30 am

You guys dont know what tundra is.

Actually they do to a degree. tundras are by definition, not lush, because they are very dry. That's not to say that they aren't green, but Bethesda has done their research, because many tundras look brownish.

Theres green tundra all over the world, I would bet its the most common kind of tundra there is. Both of the modifications shown in the first post are tundra just as much as the original.

true, true. I'm just fine with Bethesda's version, and what I said about it being distinctly colored compared to the marsh, which may look similar to the photoshopped pics.

Someone Collect Skyrim Screens and Photoshop them, then we save them till the Game comes and see how the Game looks, if its not to our satisfactory, then we Post these Screens or this Thread and ask for a Better Tundra Mod :D

I think we'll see some variations depending on where were at. If not, I agree, let's add it ourselves. I actually think the concept art is too green.

It's a Tundra. It isn't supposed to be lush and green...

It looks like somebody dropped a bomb on it.

@OP: Yours does look much better than the original.

Edit: Wow, for some reason I deleted my 1st comment on what I thought of the OP's work. Yes, I like the OP's version of the tundra more then the original for sure! Nice work! :goodjob:

Here is nice picture of a castle that shows very little vegetation around it.

Some areas will be more green than others, why would you want to make it all the same colour?

while tundras can be green, the cliche, typical tundra that most envision clearly would not be - for aesthetic purposes, it is really the only option that makes any sense, considering you cannot tell the tempurature or latitude, which are what define different biomes in the first place. It is meeting a common perception, as it should, otherwise people would just get confused.

The only thing that's been putting me off in lots of the Skyrim shots are the rocks, that pasty grey tone that makes them look straight out of Fallout 3.

+1 to the OP
I like the greener version much better than the original.

This remembers me to Fallout3, when I first played with FOOK2. The yellow grass was replaced with greener one, and the dust was removed (the sky might have also been more blue). And this looked really drastically better (and more believable) than the original.

You believe that every where on the planet grass is green?

No, I've already seen different places. Still I like the green one more.
Both variants are possible in a setting like that.

I'd definitely use that mod. And I hope there are mods to make the tundra more geographically interesting too.. in the gameplay video (where the giants are walking) it looked very depressing. Just a boring, flat, brown plain. I don't how exactly to spruce it up other than changing the color, but I hope it gets done.

And on the same note I hope there are mods that make lush forests cover more of the map. Like someone else said, apparently the green forests (http://media.pcgamer.com/files/2011/02/Skryim-Trailer-anolysis-4-Forest-Statue-Head.jpg) will only be a small part of the world. But those kinds of forests are far and away my favorite part of Elder Scrolls games. They feel the most "fantasy" in my opinion. The other forest they showed, the "autumn" themed one, looked depressing with all the dead trees and sepia color tone.
+1
Exactly my feelings (although I like variety).

I like your version better, and I think you are right for wanting to change it. However I think that adding patches of snow (I don't see any) to the original tundra would make it acceptable. That would look much more authentic, it just smells of fallout texture cloning atm. I think they have a dynamic weather system in Skyrim where the snow lays on top of textures, and isn't simply just textured in. So maybe when it snows, all of that tundra area would actually look quite good.

If it stays as it is though, I would be very tempted to download a mod which made it look like your last photoshop version.

Did it occur to you that if the tundra area looks like lush grassland, then all the landscapes all over the world WILL look the same? We'll get Oblivion sameness.

I didn't even realise that needed improving until I saw that first image. Incredible colours, really beautiful; they really should pay attention to that, it looks like something straight out of fantasy, yet that is real life, and Bethesda's is made up.

If you don't like the colors, don't use them when the retextures come out. It is one thing to bring a suggestions, "I think patches of snow are appropriate," it is another to be a plain moron "NOT A TUNDRA NUUUUUUUUUUUUUUFUUU!"

This is a retexture... and not something you will be forced to use. Brittainy's Oblivion http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37336 was not forced upon you, http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16191 was not forced upon you. These make significant changes to the games textures, but in no way are they forced on you!

And, as a general rule...
Before you say, "That is not a _________," make sure you look up _________ to confirm you are correct.

mm... No. The re-texture is to make the unique landscape look the same as other areas of the map. It seems pretty pointless to do.

I think large open fields are still unique, regardless of color. Green is just more appealing
