Possible hardcoe Mode (Twitter)

Post » Fri Aug 06, 2010 7:23 am

So I asked Pete Hines today if hardcoe Mode will be Implemented and if fast travel will be toggable.

He replies

"When has fast travel ever not been optional? Don't want to use it, don't. Can't answer your 2nd question."

So we know fasttravel is definitely here to stay for good. However him being unable to answer the second question could mean we are going to hear something about a hardcoe mode what do you guys think?

My opinion on fast travel is its like bringing a cake into a weightwatchers seminar. Sure you don't have to eat the cake but chances are you will. I'd personally like the option to turn it off and I dream of having Morrowinnd Style travel (Or perhaps a mix of both Oblivion and Morrowind)

Also for those that don't know "hardcoe mode" would be things like having to eat, sleep to stay alive etc... Basically a "Survival" or "Realism" Mode. Mainly for Immersion.

Could we have the link? its not that I don't believe you but I would like some confirmation. If so, that's awesome! I love to play hardcoe mode for RP purposes.

Voted don't care.

And what about the people who WANT to take a break and eat the cake?

Don't take your lack of discipline out on people who *gasp!* actually willingly use fast travel and don't feel the slightest bit guilty about it.

:swear: Pete Hines

All I want is travel services like Morrowind has in addition to fast travel, so there is a more "immersive" way to travel quickly across Skyrim... it's not too much to ask is it? :nope:
I know I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

I'm not taking anything out on anybody. The people who wan't fasttravel are cool with me, all I wan't is the option to turn it off.

Seriously, did Pete Hines just say that about fast travel? I thought Bethesda would be more in tune with their fanbase.

Voted yes. hardcoe mode is popular, so it would be great to have to in as an option. But fast travel is popular too, so I'm glad that's in as well.

Yes. Me too. A simple, nice option to turn it off/on. Please.

hardcoe mode (or Survival mode or Realism mode or whatever) would be very nice too. Optional of course.

I beat Fallout 3 and New Vegas, doing all the sidequests, without ever using fast travel.

It's entirely possible.

However, as silly as it might seem, there's really nothing to be lost to an option to actually disable fast-travel. Some people just don't have the willpower.

I think the problem people have with fast travel, is not that is was not optional to turn off, but the landscape was so uninteresting that it made walking or riding very repetitive. These people would probably not mind it if the landscape was more varied.

Perfect anology.

A hardcoe mode would be heavenly but I see it as a bonus, it's not on my "demand list".

The problem with Oblivions FT system was that there are no disadvantages to it. Everybody wants a fast travel system, add some constraints to the current system and everything will be fine.

Honestly, I think fast travel as it is in OB is ridiculously badly implemented and really breaks immersion. Why can't we have something similar to boats and silt striders in TESIII?

Some people don't like fast travel and don't like hardcoe mode. Most people get happy if they are seperated.
Or ... fast travel option could be included in a hardcoe mode, but then... all the hardcoe "addons/sub-options" would have to be optional as well. Kinda like a checklist where you check what you want :)

Off-Topic: I checked his twitter and saw this ''We know how to do good trees. Did new stuff for those. Our new system for fog and clouds is even more amazing, IMHO.'' I wonder how the new ''system'' looks for Fogs and Clouds... interesting

Well, everything. Unless you define "hardcoe mode".
