Is it possible to kill everyone in the Silver Rush?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 11:07 am

Looks to me like killing everyone in the Silver Rush if you side with Cass isn't possible. There are just too many guards. Anyone know of a strategy to take care of this?

SImple. Turn the evidence in, THEN side with Cass.

The Silver Rush will become hostile at the end of Cass' quest, if you didn't fire the first shot. Noticably, when you head to the building after turning in the evidence, most of the guards will EXIT the building, at which point they're free to be shot at. No close quarters, so it'll be easier for you to take them at range. Once you enter the Silver Rush, only the owner and her brother should be left inside.

Cass is a very bad girl! Every quest I do for her, my reputation goes to [censored]. I think I'm going to think about talking her into settling it peacefully. I don't think she and I could kill the Van Graffs at Silver Rush anyway. They're too well armed.

Well, you could begin working as a VanGraff guard for Gloria, and when the "bomber" guy walks up, (He needs to replace his old revolver) don't search him and just let him in. A seconds later Freeside is rocked by a massive explosion that sends you and anyone nearby twenty feet away. (You don't actually get hurt though) Obviously, everyone inside will be cooked. The drawback to this particular approach, is that most if not all of the "loot" will be destroyed as well. If you're not concerned with that though, this is by far the easiest way to wipe out the VanGraffs.

Killing the Van Graffs is one of my favourite combat challenges in the vanilla game and I've done it multiple ways.

The easiest would definitely be the way described above by Necromancer. Next easiest would be to setup C4 around all of the guards, Jean-Baptiste and Gloria. The next easiest would be to do the way Marss suggests.

A few ways I've tried that worked out well is using 5mm rounds(preferably from the CZ57-Avenger); Embrace of the Mantis King!(worked incredibly well); and a Riot Shotgun with Magnum rounds and the brilliant perk combo of Shotgun Surgeon and And Stay Back!. I'd recommend having at least Combat Armour or better and a good companion to have is Cass with a Brush Gun(preferably with the Medicine Stick and SWC Hand Load rounds). A good tactic to use is to either run upstairs or into the hallway where the bathrooms are so you can bottleneck them.

Totally untrue. I kill the Van Graff's every play through. Take ED-E and or Boone or Cass and go hunting. You can snipe the first guard outside before he even sees you. I think a couple more come outside as well. Once inside, don't forget to use those stimpacks.

Also- before you commit that act of genocide take a stealth boy and loot the shop clean. Wait three days then do the fight so they restock.

Yes it's possible to kill everyone but it's really hard depending on difficulty and lvl.

It's harder to keep Cass from dying while trying to kill the Van Graff's (after refusing to turn her in). That's a real challenge. It's easier at higher levels because they have nice energy weapons and combat armour.

What I did is to get them to become hostile to you and then run outside. Outside it is easier to dodge plasma. And they come out of the door in a straight line. So they will no longer be surrounding you.

Even if you are not playing in Hard Core mode Cass can die. But only if you brought her to Jean and refused to give her up.

My method is very simple: leave Cass outside, walk into the Silver Rush with a silenced sniper rifle or 12.7mm, sneak, headshot the guards one by one. So long as you remain "hidden" and your gun is silenced, you can take all of them out one by one without alerting the rest. Only killing the Van Graff siblings themselves or Simon will make them hostile. Walk in with Cass in tow and finish off the Van Graffs.

Dynamite in pants works too.

My advice is to get the Remnants power armor and a lot of super stimpacks bring my main man Acrade in he has saved my ass from deathclaws before, get your self a plasma caster go in with Arcade and kill them all if your wondering Arcade gannon has a plasma defender so he is good back up you can find him at the old mormon fort.

An Assault Carbine with 5mm AP rounds works wonders with this tactic.

I never thought killing the Van Graffs was that big of a problem. Might cost a few stimpacks, but it's simple enough.

Actually, they have a great point. If you don't go with the "suicide bomber" choice that I suggested earlier, take some Psycho and Jet. Chems aren't just things you take to become a bum of Freeside, that actually do things!

Stack some Psycho, Slasher and Med X and you're ready to fight just about anything.

I died about 4 times before I finished off the Van Graffs. I killed the guard outside, looted the chest and put on the Van Graff Combat armor. Then I went inside and all 4 guards were immediately hostile. I used VATS and the Anti-material rifle and sniped one in the head. I turned around and went outside, hoping they would all follow me. They didn't. So, after a few times of trying this, I finally pulled out my minigun with 5mm AP rounds and went crazy on all of them. I finished off Jean-Baptiste with my Alien Blaster because my 5mm was out of ammo by the time I was done. AP rounds are expensive and that thing chews through them like crazy!

You should get a Stealth Boy and take all the mines, weapons, etc. from all the tables so the guards are just left with their puny little plasma rifles while you have an arsenal of plasma grenades and industrial tools. It may take a few tries but it should work if you do it right. Set up mines outside the entrance to the bathroom, and fire a shot at one of the guards from there. The others should come running (close the door and hide in a bathroom), and should be hurt (not killed, mostly) by the mines. Throw some grenades in too for good measure.

Good strategy as well. Again, loot the place first then kill the Van Graffs a few days later to get more stuff.

This is after the fact, but you actually did not need to use AP rounds, since the regular 5mm rounds (which are very cheap) already ignore 15DT, and their combat armor has only 16DT if I'm not mistaken. :)

This is the most important thing to do if you want to kill them. If you let him, Jean-Baptiste will go straight for that Plasma Caster and he will lay a hurting on you with that thing.
