Is it possible to loose any way but dying?

Post » Sat Apr 10, 2010 3:52 pm

I get oblivion gates poping up all over, could that loose the game? Do i need to go into all of them and close them when i see them? Right now i mostly run around them.

Another thing- how do you use the soul gems? I have found a few..

Nope. Dying is the only way to "Game Over." You don't have to close any gates except those that are essential to progress the main quest, such as the one just outside Kvatch.

To use a Soul Gem, if it's empty, you have to obtain a Soul Trap spell (or a weapon enchanted with Soul Trap), cast it on a monster, then kill them. If you have an empty soul gem in your inventory, the monsters soul will go into the gem. You can then use the filled Soul Gem to enchant your weapons and armor.

As said you can′t lose this game, or finish it. Except if your character dies :sadvaultboy:

This is the spoiler section so if you don′t want those you should post in the general section :)

Many people sell soul trap spells. Among them are Alberic Litte in Chorrol, Trayvond the Redguard in Cheydinhal and Selena Orania in Bruma

Even dying doesn't lose the game as you can simply reload from youre last save and try again.
Mages guild halls sell spels of all types.I can't remember where to get the soul trap spell but the Leyawhen mages guild specializes in Mysticism.

Edit:Never mind I'm too slow.

He only sells spells, not items, it's a different icon.

And only at certain times. The mages won't trade at night, or during their dinner.

There is actually another way to game-over other than death.

Spoiler
If Martin dies during either the quests Great Gate or Light the Dragonfires, you get a Game Over.

If you do not reach the top of the Tower Portal in the Bruma Great gate within the time required, the Great War Engine emerges from the Gate and destroys all in its path in and around Bruma. You may well still be alive inside the Great Oblivion Gate, but it will be Game Over. I have not had the mind to let that occur.

As I recall there you can "lose" the game without dying by (1) Not keeping Martin alive during the battle of Bruma, (2) not stopping the Daedric Siege Engine from getting out of the Great Gate (by closing it in time), and (3) if Martin dies on his way to the Temple in the Light the Dragonfires.

But, no you don't need to close every gate you come across. Finishing the main quest (successfully) will close all gates.

EDIT: just noticed that some others have posted at least some of the ways to lose the game without dying. I think the three above are all of them.

Spoiler
Also, if the Daedric Siege Crawler makes it out of the Great Gate before you close it, you get a game over there, too.

EDIT: :ninja:
