Possible Morrowind Remake and More

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:26 am

A friend of mine, works at Gamestop and he told me that there making a remake of Morrowind for the PC, 360, and PS3 using Skyrim's graphics. Also, he told me the next Elder Scrolls would be Elswyer (sp?) on this gen of consoles and Blackmarsh will be next gen, and it will have some form of multiplayer. He got all this information from Bethesda because apparently Bethesda told Gamestop. This is probably a big FAT lie, but what do you guys think? Personally, I think a Morrowind remake would be cool.

There is quite possibly a remake of Morrowing using the Skyrim engine similar to the http://morroblivion.com/ remake that used the Oblivion engine, which is where any assumption he is making about a remake will have come from

In terms of TES:VI your friend (no offence) is lying or at least making assumption with no evidence, he doesn't know and Bethesda would not have told anyone yet, they probably don't know themselves yet. They didn't reveal Skyrim until 11 months before release and we are at least 4 years away from the next game in the series so

None of what he said is true, but we're all hoping Elsweyr is TES VI... except the large number of lizard-lovers who can't understand that trying to set a game in Black Marsh would destroy the appeal of the game.

elyswere or black marsh would both be amazing. But i am not sure if bethesda is smart enough to pick one of those provinces. Elyswere would be much easier to make than black marsh. The buildings are more basic, much of the land is baren and these two things should mean a much larger gameworld is in order. However Creature/ character models would need a [censored]load more detail. The game could probably use some deformation in sand and more destructible environments

I think that a Morrowind remake, would be very profitable. All Bethesda would have to do, is give it's Skyrim's graphics and it would easily be goty due to it's rabid fan base.

Probably, but I seriously doubt that Bethesda would make a remake. There are hundreds of mods out there that can make look Morrowind very good - at least as good as Oblivion, so people probably wouldn't pay again for something they already have bought, and could upgrade for free.

Second, it wouldn't be easy at all! Some things work different in the Skyrim engine, like there is no Levitation in it, while in Morrowind there are many places you couldn't get without it. Just think of the Telvanni Towers! Before you would say that they could put levitation in it, I don't know if the coding of the Engine would allow that. Probably it would, but there is a reason why Bethesda didn't put that in Skyrim. (Sadly. I miss levitation!)

Thirdly, when Bethesda dropped the Ministry of Truth on Morrowind, they have technically gave the finger to all those Morrowind fans who were begging for a game where they could return to Morrowind. In myopinion this looked like a pretty clear message on how Bethesda feels about this topic.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure everything he said is a big fat lie. Bethesda has said they don't want to do multiplayer, it takes away from the ability to focus on a great singleplayer experience (and they never mention it but there are loads of game mechanics that would absolutely NOT WORK in multiplayer). They have said before they don't plan it all that far ahead. They focus on one game at a time before deciding what the next game is going to be. It would surprise me if they remade Morrowind with current graphics, especially since a lot of the time they seem to forget it and a lot of things about it ever existed. And why would they tell Gamestop?

Am I the only one who would want TES: VI to be in Valenwood?
I thought guerilla fighting the Thalmor would be kinda cool.

Yes but they had the name "Skyrim" copyrighted right after the release of Oblivion. They won't announce it for a while, however with a bit of detective work there's definitely a way to find out which game is next in the series. People on the forum had speculated Skyrim for at least 2 or 3 years before it's announcement.

The reason they stopped using levitation is because the cities are now separate cells and are no longer one big exterior cell like in Morrowind. If you were to levitate above a city in Skyrim you would only see the LOD meshes and textures and an empty city you can't interact with. However with a high end system you could get around that and make them all one big cell again. I know they did it with Oblivion and with they Total Conversion of Oblivion, Nehrim.

Actually I rather like that idea. Also it would be cool if Bethesda switched the cliche story line alignment and had you play as a Thalmor agent helping to take down the empire for good.

I would also love to see Hammerfell in the next game. We've done so much in the Immortal Blood Timeline with its lore that it's appealed to me more than it ever has before. The wide variety of culture and landscapes would be amazing to see in a game.

I would really love to see any new place but I thought it would be a cool change to go from the most focused on part of the game being "GRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH I'M A TANK!" to "DUDE SSSSSSSHHHHHHH I'M HIDING.....3...2....1.....KASPLOSION!" And wood elves deserve a little focus since they're a joke. And what better way then to make people know they could actually sneak up and tear your intestines out your a** (gross....exageration)

Couldn't agree more.

I am a HUGE Argonian fan but I do not want VI to be in Black Marsh, IMO it would break the 'mystery' of the Argonians.

I wouldn't mind it being in Black Marsh, provided they implemented destro-physics for the terrain and forest fires were an option, as for Elswyer I don't get the appeal isn't that place mostly desert and ruins? Seems like the sort of setting that would wear out too quickly for a sandbox game funnily enough.

I have heard of this before. Where would one therefore go to find such information? And does this same place now have a new copyrighted name now that we are after the release of Skyrim?

I wouldn't mind getting Morrowind II, only it would actually be set in mainland Morrowind and a bit in the Argonian occupied territory, However, I doubt that that will happen, so my money's on Summerset.

A remake of Morrowind would be incredible though. If they updated it with Skyrim's graphics, and maybe a better combat system it would be gold.

Right, so your friend is somehow 2 gens ahead of Bethesda.
And there is no chance of TES 6 being used in this generation of consoles.
They're too old.

I doubt they'd even be able to run Minecraft properly due to the small amount of RAM available.

I have no idea. Maybe googling a site that lists international copyrights and trademarks? There has to be some sort of organization that deals with that stuff and displays it so that other people can see what has been copyrighted.

Bethesda doesn't need to remake Morrowind though. The work that some modders have done is more than Bethesda could do. My installation of Morrowind looks a lot better than Oblivion. It's ridiculous how good it looks. Skyrim is still using 512x512 and 1024x1024 textures. My Morrowind installation has a minimum texture size of 2048x2048 with quite a few of them being as high as 4096x4096. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8b-67c3JxIE&feature=related

I cant agree more. PC or next gen consoles are the only way that Beth can one-up Skyrim. The current frame rates with consoles are bad enough as it is.

Is your friend by chance 8 years old or have the personality of an 8 year old because that's the only type of person I would imagine to make up such obvious lies.

Console player. Barring a remake of Morrowind, I won't see such delicious graphics until I'm out of college and can afford a gaming rig.

Haha!

You're friend is talking nonsense. Even Bethesda wouldn't be certain of plans that far ahead yet - and even if they were I doubt they'd just tell a Gamestop employee.
