Possible Multiplayer in Skyrim

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:31 am

I sent this message to bethesda last night and they responded positively and told me to post this in the forum.

I have a good suggestion and compromise for the people who want an MMORPG out of Skyrim. It would be great if you could add the Arena from Oblivion and add it as an online experience to Skyrim; Where you use the character you create in the regular game and battle in the Arena against other players around the world. Obviously matchmaking should be regulated based on character class and other factors. It is a good suggestion because many players(at least in the console side of gaming) expect some kind of multiplayer action in their games, and as a result could bring an insentive for mainstream gamers who have never played an Elder Scrolls game to purchase Skyrim. Another reason you should consider an online arena is because it probably wouldn't require too many resources to create. It could start as a basic arena on the initial launch of the game, and patches and other maps or arenas could be added later(people would probably pay for these add-ons). I think many players would appreciate a way to interact online and you may appreciate extra revenue from an online multiplayer. That would be a nice WIN-WIN situation. Thank you for your time and have a great day

All multiplayer threads are directed to the Series Discussion in which there is a thread for it, go there and use the search button in the top right corner, since I am far too lazy too search for it.

An Online arena would be a stupid idea.
For starters, it would never be balanced.

Yeah, I don't believe that they responded positivity. Give a quote of them saying it if not a link to a picture of the message.

That is why I suggested regulating the matchmaking. The developers would be the ones who determine balance issues based on class, rank, birthsign, etc. I think it would be fun to have an online battle arena.

Wow, this is a perfect example of how "hardcoe gamers" treat "casual gamers" like they are somehow superior to them. This guys has a legitimate idea and you just shut him down because you guys aren't used to multiplayer in elder scrolls. He didn't say you would have to use the arena multiplayer. He just presented an idea that would satisfy a large group of people who enjoy multiplayer while not hurting those who don't. I applaud you I'm 50 Tyson for presenting this resourceful idea.

It doesn't seem likely to happen. They're too far in the development to implement something that big.

You don't seem to understand, you can glitch your character to godliness with enough effort in TES games.
It won't work.
Or what about dozens of health potions?
Weapons with paralyze enchantments?
It won't work, ever.

Please use the Multiplayer thread that is already created: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1150059-the-engine-and-possible-co-op/

And if you read the Bethesda Blog, they clearly state that they are NOT going to be making any MMO: http://bethblog.com/index.php/2009/08/17/clarifying-about-next-elder-scrolls-game-mmo-etc/

I really can't imagine how this would work. magic would have to be totally done away with because either A) mages will just stomp everyone that doesn't have the right gear, or B ) they would be silenced and cut down.

It's not as if he's the first person to come up with this idea either. I'm pretty sure this has been mentioned dozens of times.

Though I appreciate him coming here and sharing his idea on multiplayer, I would have to disagree. I would much prefer Skyrim remaining single player only.

There's that link, which is more about co-op, I think and then http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1119156-official-tes-multiplayer-thread/ - you can use that one as well. :)
