Possible Necromancy spells?

Post » Sat Sep 10, 2011 6:12 am

It’s a dungeon – or series of them – that is vastly different to the ones we’d previously encountered, with stone walkways, steep stone steps, an iconic glowing tree in the middle of one of its cylindrical chambers, huge steel doors and vampires blocking your progress. Here, anything went and that included fighting Skeevers and watching a dead vampire get resurrected by a nearby powerful mage.

A powerful mage resurrecting dead vampires...So here are my thoughts. This spell is probably either:

1.) An A.I.-exclusive ability to revive fallen comrades, as they were before they died
2.) A Necromancer's spell used to resurrect anyone who dies (friendly or otherwise) to fight on their behalf

The real question, of course, is whether or not we'll have this ability.

What do you think?

Side note: I know there are lot of threads discussing the interview in general, as well as specific aspects of it, so I'm sorry if this had been brought up already.

They always have had a 'Conjoure' which will most likely involve that field. I doubt they'll add a 'Necromancer' only section... It's always been 'Conjoure Undead' etc... My money is on that. Especially with how they're doing the talent trees.

This could be one aspect of having no more spellmakers. It allowed the devs to create all these unique spells, including relatively powerful ones like res-a-pal. Could argue that it would make for having awesome custom spells through a maker, but the spellmaker limited spells to very mechanical elements. Now we have flamethrowers, shields, and whatnot.

Then again, could say those were viable options to add to a revamped spellmaker.

The necromancy spells that revive fallen comrades were first detailed during the Quakecon hands on previews about 1 month ago, and then described in greater detail by Pete in the bulletproof pixel radio interview.

  • When you kill the necromancer, the person he had revived instantly turns to dust.
  • The PC can find and learn these necromancy spells
  • There is no necromancer's guild (no word yet on whether they are all 100% hostile or whether it is possible to have dialogue and quests)

That too... ;P

Nah I know about conjuration, and I don't think they'll add a new school for Necromancy. Sorry for being unclear.

What I'm saying is that, the way I read it, it suggests that the reviewer was fighting a group of vampires, one of whom was a mage.

He killed a vampire, who the mage then resurrected. That doesn't sound like conjuration, it sounds like necromancy.

Edit: Thanks for clearing that up BootySweat, not sure how I managed to miss that. Cool info.

Yes, this has been confirmed in several hands on previews and previous interviews. There are Necromancy spells that can revive fallen comrades and the PC can learn them.

I just hope it doesn't turn out to be the case that every single Necromancer we encounter is automatically hostile toward the PC.

A necromancy perk tree under conjuration that focuses on the undead aspect of conjuration would be great.

BootySweat, you have now solidified what my first class and character is going to be.
