Is it possible to never get a "failed" quest?

Post » Wed Jun 12, 2013 3:37 am

Specifically, joining the Stormcloaks or Imperials.

Is it possible to get through a playthrough without having the other appear in your journal, so that you never fail one of them?

I have both "join the imperial Legion" AND "join the Stormcloaks" in my journal.

Is it going to be impossible to get through the playthrough without having a "quest failed"?

Stay away from the enemy supporters so you dont get the quest added.

I don't get it...

You obviously can't be part of both if they are going to war with each other.

if you start the war straight away, it is possible.
I have a character with 12 hours and only the 'Join the stormcloaks' in the quest log.

Yes, precisely.

I don't want to see the word "failed" pop up on my screen if I can possibly avoid it.

I wanted my entire playthrough to be devoid of any quest failures.

Is that an impossible goal? Will certain quests inevitably conflict with each other forcing you to "fail" them?

I followed Ralof out of Helgen. He suggested I join the Stormcloaks (got the journal entry).

Then I go to Falkreath, and speak to a guy in the Jarl's longhouse.

Immediately in the dialogue he says something which puts "join the Imperial Legion" in my journal.

So is my goal achievable? I just hate being forced to fail a quest, when I don't want to fail any quest I am given!

when joining one side, put the HUD slider to the far left and then you wont see the message on the screen.

I'm afraid you can't avoid that. Not sure why it would be such a problem, because you obviously must make a choice.

Making choices is what's part of playing an RPG. Well, it supposed to be anyway. If you actively search out every detail before you encounter it, then how is that even considered playing the game?

I mean... you are spoiling it for yourself.

I am 31 years old, and have been playing RPG's since I was 8.

I don't have to justify my playstyle. I had a question. I don't appreciate being criticized for it.

I like to complete my quests as I get them. When I am given a quest in my journal, I like to complete it, and feel good about not failing it.

I am perfectly happy with the decision before me to join either side.

What I am not happy with is being forced to see both quest objectives in my journal, and forced to see one failed. That is just my opinion. I dont expect you to share that opinion, so please dont expect me to share yours.

May i ask which quest is scripted to fail?

Woah... easy there Skippy. No one is laying any fault for you playing how you want. Don't get sharp, because you post in an open forum and are questioned.

I don't really care what you do. It's just an open discussion.

I don't remember.

MQ Horn of Jurgen Windcaller. There is a point at which you WILL get a failed message, regardless of what you try.

You shouldn't have told him. Now, he won't do the MQ. :D That's why I retracted the statement from my original post. :deal:

Thank you very much.

So you mean you lied when you said "I don't remember?"

By the way, I didn't mean to get overly defensive. You jumped to a conclusion. And of course I will do the main quest.

Let me be more clear about my initial question.

I wanted to know if it was possible to not get a failed message.

If it was, then I was going to pursue not getting one. Can you really fault me for not wanting to fail?

Now that I know it is impossible, whereby, I will eventually get a failed message regardless, then it is totally settled with me. I am at ease about it. Just wondered. That's all.

No... I didn't remember the name of it. I knew what it was, where it was and that is was part of the MQ. But I didn't recall the name. I retracted the comment because I wanted to stay out of it. I just couldn't live with myself knowing I spoiled your game.

I must admit it is rather funny. I've been laughing ever since I typed that out.

... horrible I know.

Not horrible.

Like I explained above, I didn't mean to get overly defensive.

I have been laughing about being called "skippy". Lol.
