Possible Problem with the GECK?

Post » Sun Nov 28, 2010 2:02 pm

I've been using the geck for a bit, and this has happened several times - Basically, after a session on the geck, my system seems to freeze. after resetting/restarting the system, instead of starting it displays an error message - 'Data read error' or something like that, anyway. After which, when turned on the computer works for a little while and each time locks up again and has to be left.

If it's just be me it might be an issue on my system, but i need to know if anyone else encountered this while using the GECK, if only to rule it out as the source.

Do you mean when you exit the geck? When I exit, and I know this happens to alot of people, the GECK will freeze. Your whole computer should not. For some people it closes instantly, for others it takes a long time, like me.

Not exactly. Yes, the GECK Freezes up like that normally (i usually used End program to shut it down at this point, or else it comes out with "The program has suffered an error and had to close" and shuts down.) However, after a while of use, or a long session of modding, it freezes up and freezes the system.

It just occured to me, Could this be being caused by the Havok limit being crossed by the mod? the area on the mod i'm trying to make is pretty big, and could be crossing the limit.

This may or may not be related, but I find that over long sessions (spanning a couple of days) the Geck will eventually crash one way or another. I suspect there is a memory leak within its code. I have even recieved 'out of memory' error messages.

If you do exceed the limit, you will get a warning for each when loading the cell for each object that is out-of-bounds.
