You'd have to travel to each house, get them to follow you back to the house at which you want them to stay, order them to wait/sit there, and then repeat for each housecarl.

No, they can't move to a different house. You are reading too much into it. They mean the Whiterun house, not just any house you own.

No, sorry. A Housecarl isn't really meant to be used as a companion in fighting. They are meant to protect your hosue while you're away. They are HOUSEcarls.
But yeah, if I live in one house but own them all just to earn the Thane titles and burn some gold I want all my bodyguard in one place. About time I get to have assassins sneaking skillfully in, avoiding all guards.

As a housecarl is a bodyguard. They can protect your house, but their duty is your person first.

Wait how would that work? You can only have one housecarl following you at a time, you'd have to dismiss one to make the other one follow you, once dismissed, the housecarl would just travel back to the Jarl, or your house in that city.

Yeah, good point. But that is where having several housecarls in one place comes in.

Hence me wanting to put them all in my house. :puz:
