Possible to remove dependancy on an ESM?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:42 am

Is it possible to remove the dependency of an ESM? Because of an bug with the CS, I have to load an ESM in order to save an ESP. Is there a way to remove the dependency on the ESM that I have to load? Maybe through Bash, Gecko, or some other tool? Tes4Edit?

With Gecko:
  • Click "Edit Master List".
  • Choose the Plugin.
  • A window with the master-list appears.
  • Choose the specific master.
  • Click "Remove".
  • Click "Done".
  • That was all...

For the record, in TES4Edit:

Right-click in the left pane with the mod loaded.
Select "clean masters"
It will remove the dependency if it's not required, and correct any changes in formIDs that are needed.

Awesome. Thanks Arthmoor. I'd rather use TES4Edit because I don't have to install Java Runtime Environment.

It doesn't work. I selected the mod I made, right-clicked, and selected "Clean Masters", and nothing happened. I loaded the mod up again to see if it worked and the master was still there.

Aptly. That means the 'Master.ESM' to be removed is still referenced by the 'Slave.esp', so TES4Edit won't remove it via "Clean masters" as it would bork the plugin. If you can track down the referenced record(s), copy it/them into 'Slave.esp' and manually remove 'Master.ESM' from the master list. Provided Oblivion.esm is the only other master of this plugin, everything should check out after a reload (R-Click 'Slave.esp' and "Check for errors" to verify).

Simply carving out 'Master.ESM' would have left unresolved references.

The thing is there are no records that are the same. I have to load an ESM in order to save a plugin, otherwise the CS crashes on saving. The plugin I made widens the torch light radius. I loaded OOO's ESM which allowed me to save the plugin. There are no records from the OOO ESM in my plugin. What do you mean by "manually" remove the master ESM from the master list?

There is at least one reference to OOO if TES4Edit won't remove it automatically via "Clean masters" unless TES4Edit isn't loading all the way ([00:15] Backgrround loader finished). If you're confident it's a fluke, you can manually remove OOO from the masterlist by selection/removal from the MAST section of your file's header. After a reload, "Check for errors" and you'll see entries in the messages tab of the right panel where the OOO record(s) were referenced. You can use that info to find/fix the broken record(s).

No, you're right. There are 2 OOO references in the plugin I made. I didn't realize that there were until I loaded it up in TES4Edit. Thanks for you're help.

Aha! Sometimes those buggers are hard to find and/or they sneak in. Glad to hear you were able to round 'em up. :foodndrink:
