Is it possible to remove a mod after completion?

Post » Thu Jul 04, 2013 2:30 pm

Hey everyone.

I wanted to play through the Wizard Island mod, so I downloaded it and finished it. Great mod, a lot of fun.

But now I want to go back to normal Morrowind. I want to hear the Morrowind theme when I start a game and I don't want to see that large island on the side of the map. Unfortunately, the game won't let me. When I turn the mod off and try to play (even though I only have vanilla MW items in my inventory and am at Seyda Neen), it goes through all the missing files (literally all of them, hundreds) that are missing because I turned the mod off, asking "Continue running executeable?"

I tried hitting yes through them all but the game crashed. I've tried a bunch of different things, but so far have been unable to remove Wizards Island from my game but still play the same character. Am I screwed over here, or is there a method I don't know of?

Delete all the stuff with wizard's island in your morrowind/date files, like meshes, textures and also icon's, sounds. Anything related to wizard's island delete.

I did that. I went as far as to re-download it so I could see each file and delete it.

Then I load my save of my character who just finished the mod, with no items from the mod, and I got hundreds of missing file error messages and the game crashed at the end of those.

That isn't what he's asking.

my best guess would be to use some super complex tool full of acronyms and numbers. Do you use Wyre Mash? Perhaps you could use that to remove the save game's dependency on the mod. Otherwise, if you want the main theme song back go copy it off of the CD (or if you got it on steam, downloaded it maybe?).

I've never played Wizards island, as soon as I launched the game the first time with that mod installed and heard a different theme song I thought it had already taken to many liberties.

Also, you can add the line AllowYesToAll=1 under the General section of your ini (or change it to 1 if its already there). That will allow you to skip through all those error messages.

If you are a regular mod user you might want to consider using Wrye Mash for your mod management, it'll help with cleaning up your save when removing mods. There's a few versions out there: the original python verson, and a couple executable versions, one with improvements by Yacoby. Threads for them can be found easily on these boards.

edit: wolli beat me on the Mash suggestion

Start a new game.

You should NEVER attempt to remove a large mod after saving with it, as the removal causes too much instability. If you MUST remove the mod, attempt to use Wyre Mash, as mentioned before, to remove it. There should be an option for it to allow you to remove all items added by a mod from a save and keep the save stable.

This worked, and I'll look into the Wrye Mash.
