Is is possible...

Hey there, I have very little modding XP, but was curious how hard it would be to change certain NPC's in OOO. I want to get rid of Amazons, replacing them with something else.

Big mess waiting to happen, huge can of worms, reasonably doable, or piece of cake?

Thanks

I guess it's not too hard, just some work.
Find all Amazon Spawning lists , remove their content and add whatever you'd like to be in their caves.
Some of the loot in their caves has been kind of amazonified with more jewelery, but that's no biggie, right?
I don't know how many of these lists there are,
but you can find them by finding the amazon NPC's(Editor Id's starting with 'BanditAmazon')in the Object Window's NPC tab of the CS and check their Use Info/Objects and looking up every LVLC object.
I don't think any Amazons are added directly into cells, but if so, you'll see so in the 'Used in these Cells' part where you can just follow the name as a link and manually delete the npc in the Cell View or Render Window.

Hope that helps.;)

Create a new _NPC record which you aim to replace every instance of the other with and "Copy as new Record Into..." Oscuro's Oblivion Ovehaul.ESM with http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11536. After it's in, Ctrl+C the form ID of the _NPC you want gone and R-Click --> Remove it. Then R-Click your new NPC and "Change Form ID" to the Ctrl+C'd form ID close/save. After that, every instance of the old _NPC will be your replacement. Alternatively (and probably safer/easier), you could just "Copy as override into..." a separate plugin the NPC record and edit it.

Aye, that'd be faster.:)
But would this work as well if he'd want to replace them with, say, rats 'n Goblins?

Chances are as most CREA/_NPC records should be interchangeable, but that would require the former method as you can't override a record with one of a different type. I'd probably avoid swapping an _NPC with a CREA, but it might work. Also, either way, there would need to be faction edits and so on to make the edit fit in (referenced by tab is priceless).

Edit: I'd definitely avoid the NPC - Creature swap as the placed references would still be ACHR's when they'd need to be ACRE's and I'm fairly certain that TES4Edit won't alter the record signatures accordingly. If and only if the undesired _NPC is referenced strictly by leveled creature lists would that work, as placed LVLC's are REFR's and not ACHR's or ACRE's.
