Possible Volkihar Vampire Presence..

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 12:22 pm

So I read the IGN article: "Stomping Across the Snows of Skyrim", and while most of us (including me) have assumed "the black door adorned with a skull" will be the entrance to the Dark Brotherhood lair in Skyrim, I think I may have found evidence to suggest other wise.

I came to this conclusion while I was looking up the different vampire clans from TES lore, I found out that the strongest vampire clan the Volkihar actually live in eastern Skyrim; possibly near Falkreath located is southeastern Skyrim near where the journalist from the article says he was adventuring when he discovered the door.

The Volkihar description kind of ties in with the area around the black door that the journalist was describing in his article.

Volkihar description: "The Volkihar are paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins. They lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes, never venturing into the world of men except to feed. They also have the ability to reach through the ice of their lakes without breaking it."

Journalist's description of the area near the door: "Take for example the black door adorned with a skull I found near a frigid pond in a rocky recess." (but what does he mean by frigid pond, how can you tell if an in game pond is frigid? was it frozen? Could it have to deal with the ice lakes the Volkihar legends talk about?) Than he goes onto say "The door spoke to me in an otherworldly whisper while shimmering faintly, and asked if I knew the music of life." (the door is asking the player if they know the music of life, could this question some how be referring to the Elder Scrolls lore that vampires are considered undead? Maybe the key to entering is to be undead?)

I am only suggesting that maybe the Volkihar will be a new evil faction that is joinable in the game. I am in no way trying to say that the Dark Brotherhood are out of the game (as they have already been confirmed anyways), and just that maybe their lair is located somewhere else.

What are your guy's thoughts on this? Maybe I am being a little too eager, and just looking too deep into things.

Your reasoning seems legit... however I didn't vote.
It could be vampires or the dark brotherhood...
Unless they release info about vamps or the db's whereabouts I think we'll have to wait for the game's release for us to find out.

Actually, when I first read the thing about the "music of life" my first thought were simply death. I'm not sure why, but u suppose the place is just a cool lair for vampires or necromancers. Nothing special.

I figured the music of life, would be "death.". Either having to do with necromancers(Confirmed to be in the game), Dark Brotherhood(Also confirmed) or Volkihar/vampire(Still unknown).

It's a http://bulk.destructoid.com/ul/user/3/32408-118387-darkbrotherhooddoorjpg-468x.jpg on it that asks a specific poetic question.

Honestly, how could you ever consider it to be anything else? It's exactly like how it was in Oblivion. Vampires wouldn't have something like that.

I thought the music of life would be the screams of dying, or the silence of dead people. Being surrounded by people who once talked, shouted, and walked around, now lie quiet and motionless. A sweet, sweet melody of lifelessness.

This is my favourite bit of all the reviews from this weekend, but I'm hoping it's not any major faction thing, or at least if it is, then there's loads more of this sort of stuff in the game. My favourite part of the game's exploring so discovering things like this is what it's all about for me.

These vampires are special though. The Volkihars of skyrim sound more unique and more evil than the ones encountered in other provinces. Who knows maybe the door was not made by the vampires but made by mages to keep them locked away? the skulls is a warning and the password is, emm weell, that part is harder to explain. I still think its a vampire den with a black magic door made by ancient vampire mages or something

I am pretty sure if the journalist saw the skull on the door, he also would have seen a black hand (and mentioned it) if there was one.

I kinda thought it would be a heartbeat or the sound of blood being pumped around the body. Which would fit both a vampire lair and the Brotherhood :)

personally, i think the volkihar will be in Skyrim, really, there's no reason they shouldn't be. as for the door, i think it's definitely the Dark Brotherhood. I mean, if the Volkihar can just go through the icy surface of a lake, why would they need a big black door with a skull on it. just sayin

What possible reason could you have to think that when it's EXACTLY like the door leading to the Dark Brotherhood. "What is the color of night" and "What is the music of death" is same question format and the same melodramatic poet style and it's a big black door with a skull on it. If the Volkihars are supposed to be unique, they should get a unique way of hiding that doesn't blatantly rip off the Dark Brotherhood.

I am pretty sure if the journalist saw the skull on the door, he also would have seen a black hand (and mentioned it) if there was one.

And I'm pretty sure that the journalists are not half the Elder Scrolls fans the general forum-goer is and may very well overlook a hand and its significance and only notice the giant skull. There have been a ton of cases of journalists displaying their major ignorance of the series in Skyrim articles.

I think the OTHER that is behind tha black door will be the entrance to the DLCs when they come out. For know, it will just be locked up.

No no, "death" would be the "end of life". The answer, my dear brothers and sisters, of the "music of life", would be the sound of blood flowing from the veins of our prey to quench our eternal thirst.
