Possible WIP, Vampire Slayer Quest

Post » Sat Nov 13, 2010 10:03 pm

I've had some ideas thrown around in my head lately for a new project. Its been quite some time since I did any modding for Oblivion, other than the occasional personal mods.

For a very basic summary, I was planning on making a quest mod centered around a former vampire slayer who recently disappeared. The quest would include a new chapel home with some surprises, a few custom weapons and armor, an engaging quest line, and good times for all.

The reason I'm hesitant about starting is with all these game changing mods coming out, I kind of feel "behind". Not to mention I wouldn't be making anything new really, I'm planning on only using modder's resources from the Nexus.

Anyways, if anyone would be interested in playing or testing something like this, please let me know and I'll send it your way if I do decide to finish it.

Here's a little more detailed summary of the quest for those of you who don't mind possible spoiling:

Spoiler

The quest would start when the player finds an abandoned chapel in the wilderness. After some adventuring, you discover the chapel was once the home of an ancient vampire slaying order. After they had left disbanded, a famous vampire slayer from Valenwood began to use it as his new home. This vampire slayer was on a quest to track down a vampire elder who has been causing a lot of trouble in his homeland. However, the ancient order left behind some of their most terrible secrets, and now the vampire slayer has disappeared just as he came close to finding his enemy.

Something like that ;)

Sounds interesting, but I have a little advice: many mods focusing on vampires don't really take into consideration the possibility that the PC themselves may also be one. If you want your quest to be truly complete, you should consider this option as well.

As the Vanilla vampire system is, I love to kill vampires instead of being one of them (Thanks StarX to make them tougher). Community is not plenty of Vampire Hunters mods (not that I'm aware of)... They're more focusing on correcting the Vanilla Vampire system.

A Vampire Hunter mod will be more than appreciated, if well done. Your Idea looks interesting, but just as Xrd8o said, don't do the mistake done by Bethesda with the Order of Virtuos Blood (allowing a Vampire to join a Vampire Hunter Order).

This will not be a faction anyway as I understand.

Don't worry about the other mods/modders/game changes, just follow your idea, it is nice. I'll keep tracking.

Good luck! ;)

Glad to see a little interest. I usually play as a vampire, but I noticed there were barely any vampire hunting mods.

And don't worry, I took that into account already. I have started a bit of work, getting some basic things started. The first thing I did after starting on the new weapon was making sure vampires couldn't equip it :D

I *love* vampire hunting slaying.

In fact, I'm not interested in playing a vampire in Oblivion, and haven't been so far, because no mod (and certainly not vanilla!) comes close to my own vampiric tastes.

Looking forward very much to seeing how this one turns out.

This definitely sounds interesting. There are very few vampire hunter mods besides StarX, OOO's Light of Dawn (which isn't a quest per se, just a weapon that gains power from killing vampires), and I think one that expands on the Order of Virtuous Blood.

Really? There's a highly customisable mod by CDM - http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1084936-wipbeta-the-vampire-experience-thread-four/, which was just recently updated and better than ever, and then there's incredibly complex and huge http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1102210-unholy-darkness-complete-vampire-overhaul/ coming out very, very soon. And also WoD-based http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1049664-wipz-terran-vampires-v20/, but I guess we'll have to wait some more for that one.

Good to know. I, too, was looking for some vampire slaying, even though I *always* play as a vampire. It would be nice to experience the slayage (uh, Buffyspeak invading my dictionary again) from a vampire's perspective too - after all, the fact that you're a vampire doesn't mean you have to be on their side - or the hunters', for that matter. Playing an indepentent rogue/freelancer vamp can be fun too - as long as, unlike in vanilla, you're recognised as such.

Not to mention there's Lithian's Nature of the Beast (totally compatible with all vampire overhauls) and LTD's Vampire Overhaul as well. There's an insane amount of vampire mods out there.

And certain factions such as rogue vampires will play a large part in this mod. For the most part I'm still in the planning stages here. I'm currently in a hotel in Maryland and its pretty much flooding outside, so I did a few things in Construction Set to test out the resources I'm going to be using. I think it looks good and I'm planning on starting this soon.

This sounds great, especially if there are are quests where you can investigate to try and find a vampire in a town or something, so it's not just charging into caves.

This is definitely planned. Contracts to kill powerful, high level vampires. Not all of them are barbaric and living in caves. Some blend in seamlessly with upper class society and will have to be found within a city and dealt with.

I feel this is a fairly ambitious project for me though as its been a while since I've tackled a modding project. But again, I'm loving the idea and I definitely think I wanna go ahead with it.

Captain, I once had an idea somewhat similar to yours about a vampire slaying plot and I've done my only mod with this idea. =)
If I could give you a suggestion, could you take a look at a mod under development by me and David Brasher?
We already have a working version and the name is 'Vampire Hunting - Order of Virtuous Blood'. When we're finished, it'll contain my mod, 'Kendrel - The Vampire Huntress', Nomadimp's 'Order of Virtuous Blood Expanded' and an original series of missions.
Every one of us thought the same as you: we have plenty of vampire overhauls, but there were little thought on vampire hunters (as the colleagues noticed, even by Bethesda itself; the last available version of the mod still allows vampires to join OVB, but things will change soon enough).
Although I'm a beginner at modding, David is a very accomplished modder and he's doing an awesome job with the merging (actually, he cleaned my mod to a top-notch state).
If you have the interest, contact us.

The link to the mod is: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30568

I look forward to see another vampire slaying mod done.

Farewell and kudos to your ideas.

Oh wow, you two are both working on the mod? Coincidentally, I recently installed it. I haven't played it yet as I just started a new character but it definitely looks great. Very excited to try it.

I'll drop you two a PM if I get anywhere with this mod! Thanks!
