Possibly a dumb question...

How do I enable the console? The ~ key doesn't do anything (and it's not an international keyboard), and in my .ini file there's no line anywhere about "bAllowConsole." Believe me, I looked. So, do I need to put the line in manually? If so, where do I place it?

You could try two things;

1. Install http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13133 (requires the use of http://obse.silverlock.org/).

2. Try and disable your ITECIR; This procedure may depend on which OS you're using though.

Yeah I have the ring of console and it doesn't do anything either, probably because the console line doesn't exist in my .ini. I'm using the Steam version of Oblivion on Windows 7 if that makes a difference.

It should have the line bAllowConsole. Did you use Ctrl+F to do a text search?

[edit]

Not sure if steam version has any known issues with this since I've never used it. I'll get this moved to the H&R forum someone there should know.

[edit again]

Also, which ini are you looking at? You want to look at the Oblivion.ini not Oblivion_default.

Okay, I tried hotkeying the Ring of Gods to #1, and it works, however the bAllowConsole is nowhere to be found, not even with a ctrl+F search. And no commands I try seem to work, unless I'm not typing them correctly. To spawn an item with the console, do you type player.additem (item code) without the parentheses? Or is it something different?

player.additem itemcode count.

Item code is the hex code for whatever it is you want. Count is how many of the item.

When I look in the Oblivion folder, the only .ini file I see is Oblivion_Default. There is no .ini or other text file that just says Oblivion.

It is My Documents>My Games>Oblivion. You really dont want to edit the Oblivion_default .ini.

AH okay that makes a lot more sense now. No articles online involving the console made mention of where the Oblivion.ini file is actually located...when I played Morrowind the Morrowind.ini file was always located in my Morrowind directory so I assumed it would be the same for Oblivion. Thanks!

[edit]: Found it! It is set to bAllowConsole=1. So, my commands must not be working. I just want to spawn an item. What is the command for that? Nothing I find in any of the online articles regarding the console help...

What do you want to "spawn", the use for the console for adding items to the PC is: (as HeyYou mentioned above)

player.additem itemcode count.

Example to add 400 Iron arrows to the characters inventory it would be

player.additem 00017829 400

And you can skip the leading zeroes too: "player.additem c 50" will give you 50 repair hammers, for instance.
