Post 2nd Patch - Same exact problem

Post » Mon Jun 07, 2010 8:50 am

I want to make sure you mean after you start a new game, and it crashes a second into the intro movie? <-- This thread.
If you crash when you launch the game, or even before that at the launcher, or AFTER you view the whole intro movie after you start a new game, they are likely different problems and there are numerous other threads covering those.

Yes, I apologize: you are right. In fact I just started a thread about the difference between the problems. I simply misunderstood in this thread what you guys were talking about. For the record, my card manufacturer is nvidia.

So we both have the same crash, as in we crash around a second or two into the intro movie immediately after starting a new game. And yet we have different video cards, and I'm curious what CPU do you have?

Hey, how big is the second patch? I have a slow internet connection and want to know how long it'll take.

Also, has this patch introduced any instability for anyone?

I was wondering if you had a quad core, but you dont...Interesting, one of the theories is that he gamebryo engine can't handle four cores. I myself am on a core i7, although I'm not sure if that is the problem.

Me neither. Exact same problem. Game recommends i set all my settings to ULTRA HIGH on first launch and then proceeds to crash after the intro movie. I've tried the .cfg edits, reducing all settings to low, uninstalling and reinstalling and still nothing. I posted DXdiag info in the other thread.

Did all you guys verify the game files after you got the patch? A lot of people have been getting CTD's on startup due to corrupt game files being downloaded. Probably won't help, but it's solved the issue for some.

destructobob:

Try uninstalling your CyberLink software then load the game again. If it doesn't resolve your issue then feel free to reinstall. Try this for all of your custom video/audio software and codecs.

I was wondering if you had a quad core, but you dont...Interesting, one of the theories is that he gamebryo engine can't handle four cores. I myself am on a core i7, although I'm not sure if that is the problem.

I'm on a q9550 and it works so it's not quad core related. (As a whole.) Plus I have seen others with I7 who play the game just fine.

Got it, thanks Taco. I'll try that right now and see how it goes. I'll try cyberlink first, then VLC, and I cant think of any other video players I would have installed.

Uninstalling cyberlink didn't work. I even used Revo to delete any last trace of it. I'll try VLC right now.

Back when fallout 3 launched I couldn't launch my game till one day I got the idea to uninstall my Drawing Tablet Drivers which seemed to do the trick. Basically any random ass driver can be causing the problems..

On a older computer to get Oblivion working (same engine) I had to disable my Media Center Remote control device in Device manager. Which allowed me to play.

Another thing I did was ran a program that lets me disable all my system's codecs http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_codec.html

Just Select All hit disable and try to play. And when you are done re-enable all so you can watch videos etc.

Lastly, I've seen people doing is running Event Viewer to find what driver or program is causing the crash. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-Event-Viewer

Hope any of this helps.

I'll repost my event viewer log, but somebody earlier said that it didn't help with much. I uninstalled both cyberlink and VLC with Revo, and deleted all traces of them, and then restarted my computer. I'm still crashing in the exact same spot.

Here is my event viewer.

Both the exception codes from the event viewer point to the driver trying to access memory that doesn't belong to it, which windows won't allow. To workaround this you can change the execute disable bit option in bios. It might also be called something like XD bit for Intel or Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) for AMD. Either change the option from enable to disable or the other way around. The downside of this is that it makes your computer more vulnerable to buffer overflow attacks. I find fallout more important though ;)

BTW, I still remembered the first exception code from when I was playing Fallout 3 and it used to constantly crash :P

I believe other posters are also suggesting to try disabling DEP for FalloutNV in Windows.

Go to Start and right click Computer and click Properties.

Click Advanced System Settings. Click on Advanced tab and then settings under Performance. Click the Data Execution Prevention tab and check the box Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select. Click Add and then add both fallout executables. If at that point you can't load the game then revert your settings to the way it was.

This didn't work. Thanks anyways

I'm about to try the bios fix...but where would that option be? I honestly don't know how to even get into the bios. I've tried hitting F2 right when I startup, before windows appears, but that doesn't seem to give me what looks like a bios menu.

Unfortunately you can't turn DEP off under windows if the cpu has hardware support. At least not in 64 bit windows.

About getting into the bios, laptops often don't have many settings in bios even if you can get in sadly, however I think on your model you can enter bios with F1, otherwise maybe Del will work, perhaps google it ;)

New drivers were released yesterday. They work with the Y560s but New Vegas is still giving me the same problem.

It is working for me now! I installed the new drivers, verified the files a final time, and then used that InstalledCodec thing to disable all the codecs.

I have the same question. Are you on the core i5 or core i7?

Ok, I installed catalyst 10.10, on my core i7...and updated the driver on my ATI 5730.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, the game still doesn't work. On the plus side, I'm finally not BSODing after a driver update. But the downside is, I am still crashing around two seconds into the intro video.
