Post apocalyptia and you

Anyone watched the book of Eli?
A post-apocalyptic masterpiece.

Was it really that good? I never saw it but my sister said it svcked. (She loved all the Mad Max movies, we have all the movies on DVD so its not like she doesn't like the genre of post-apocalyptic type movies or anything like that.) :tops:

It really wasnt that good. Like I said before, the ending is ridiculous and the whole movie is just religious propaganda.

Yeah, I watched it.
And after the film was over I had to watch a film that was actually good because I felt filthy and disgusted with myself.
IMO, the movie tried to be deep while still trying to cater to the frat-boys who want action and cool fighting scenes.
The movie felt schizofrenic(?).
Not good.

But we all have different opinions.
A lot of people love 2001: A Space Odyssey. But I couldn't figure out what it was suppose to be about.

I'm a film scholar, it's one of my passions. Movies are a great way to relax and make your mind wonder. But I never understood 2001. I have seen every movie on the best ever lists and it's the only one that I just don't like in any way. Sure it's artistic, but I don't understand what's to like about it. I probably sound pretty naive right now. If someone could enlighten me on why it's such a great film I beg of you to do so.

It was boring for the most part. The end was kind of cool when Jupiter... okay I was going to talk about the ending but maybe someone actually hasn't seen it yet. lol

I got that too. It turns out that my computer is too old to play an updated version of a game from 1997. :cryvaultboy:

Six String Samurai.
It's a post-apocalyptic film about a man who wants to be the king of Vegas.
Great film.
Bad acting.
Poor script.
Great soundtrack.
Crap special Effects.
Nice iconic characters.
Just a damn good film. :)

I'm watching Mad Max, playing Borderlands, etc.

(I could not believe how much Eli looked like fallout. When he was walking on the overhang I was like it's almost like fallout except it wouldbe crumbled and then it did and I was like, oh snap)

So, any post-apocalyptic world == Fallout?

I'm playing Fallout 3 all over again. This time, with all the expansion packs. I never got the opportunity to play any expansions after the first time I beat it (or install any mods for that matter). But I recently managed to pick up a cheap copy of the Game of the Year edition. :vaultboy:

The Book of Eli was good, but I didn't watch it to get ready for Vegas, exactly.

Woah, thanks for the warning! :hugs: What does the glitch do?

Right now I'm only level 6 and I've only been pursuing the main quests - haven't done any of the expansions yet, but I've activated them all. Is it safe to deactivate them all, and just activate them one-at-a-time when I feel like doing them? Also, I'm playing the PC version if that makes a difference.

The problem with 2001 is it doesn't hold up very well. For its time the graphics were cutting edge and it inspired all of the Star Wars space scenes. Take the jogging scene for instance, with today's modern FX we could make that scene in an hour with CGI but for its time it was revolutionary. I agree that it could of said what it had to say in a fraction of its time. Its themes of Primitive survival and the dangers of Artificial intelligence were edgy stuff in the 70s. With that said I cant really defend 2001 either, it was a bit "So What" to me as well. The film did garner obvious pop culture references (Hal, the Soundtrack, The Apes) though and inspired a generation on Sci-Fi filmmakers. I recommend Kubrick's other works such as; Dr Strangelove, Spartacus, Lolita, Full Metal Jacket or A Clock Work Orange over 2001 .

Ah, nothing like the finale of Dr. Strangelove to get you ready for a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

I can imagine that entire movie representing the last days of America in Fallout. That's got to be one of my favorites.

"Yes gentlemen, they are on their way in, and no one can bring them back. For the sake of our country, and our way of life, I suggest you get the rest of SAC in after them, otherwise we will be totally destroyed by Red retaliation. My boys will give you the best kind of start, 1400 megatons worth, and you sure as hell won't stop them now. So let's get going, there's no other choice. God willing, we will prevail, in peace and freedom from fear, and in true health, through the purity and essence of our natural fluids. God bless you all"

I got interested in that song because of listening to Pink Floyd's "The Wall" so I listened to Vera's song and I loved it. Then I saw Dr. Strangelove and was very happy that that song got in. I think it worked well.
