are there any good post apocalyptic books? I have read a canticle for leibowitz. Wich is a very good book. Are there any more of its caliber?

Deathlands

From what I've heard from other people, The Road apparently is a very good book. Haven't read it myself though.

The Stand by Stephen King is a classic. Moreso if you appreciate how it connects to Dark Tower lore.

Alas babylon.. its not action packed, and i read it when i was in HS-so its not the most complex book out there.
but i like the idea and story presented in it.

also, Martian Chronicles by Bradbury. not wastelnd post apoc, but good and dealing with mankind killing the planet, and what we do about it.

I think The The Road effectively captures the "look and feel" of the sort of desperation I fancy one feels in PA. If you want action, you won't find it in this book. If you want to FEEL what it might be like to live through it, then this is the book for you.

The first 3 books of the Dark Tower are quite post-apocalyptic too. Basically the "Old World" was destroyed by nuclear warfare.

The Video Game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl was inspired by the Movie.

I agree completely with this. The Road makes Fallout 3 seem like a Disneyland-ride. (Can't wait for the movie!)

easily one of the more realistic...

...which was inspired by the book - A roadside picknic - which was quite a good read. Odd, yes, but good. Not too posapocalyptic though.

That's it... i thought the Book was named Stalker for some reason. Good book none the less and the Movie is actually pretty good as well.

OK, so I've read just about everyuthing recommended here and then some. Here's some thoughts:

I've read loads of Deathlands now and it all reads like trashy Fallout novels, which is fun. Don't look for an enbiggening experience though (in the same vein, but a much smaller run, try the Survival 2000 trilogy). The Postman book is loads better than the movie, A Canticle for Leibowitz comes very highly recommended by me, it is excellent. Read The Road about a year ago, it's good but it's a fast read and doesn't seem to end very cleanly. The Stand is a big read but fun. Dr. Bloodmoney, or How We Got Along After the Bomb is good as PA, but goes a bit PKD (well, it is one of his after all). The Shape of Things to Come (HG Wells) is a bit hard to get into now, the movie is actually a lot more accessable and the first half is what you'd want for PA. I Am Legend is good, best movie version is The Omega Man (very recommended). For a more sci-fi bent, try the Ringworld series of books.
