Zombie apocalypse - very unlikely, except if there is a mutated version of rabies.
Bacteria/virus/parasite pandemic - likely
Nuclear apocalypse (and nuclear winter) - unlikely, but many countries still have nuclear weapons
War - very likely, especially in Asia and Africa

You guys shouldn't be worrying about zombies. The only zombies out there are the ones that are infected with rabies.

My grandfather (An Ex. Pilot) is prepared for... something, mostly an earthquake or mount Rainier exploding I think.

He has pistols, rifles, a shotgun, a semi-auto AK-47 that he is prepared to mod fully auto if need be, stocks of water, stocks of food, gasmasks, old military gear for cold weather, and various BB guns for non-lethal protection.

I don't know what he's prepared for, but he's sure prepared for it.

Oh, and he also carries a revolver around with him wherever he goes. Came in handy once in the 80s where someone tried to mug him. He shot up the mugger's car so bad the mugger crashed from fear.

I got a buck knife.

'Tis okay, I suppose. Know a couple people who have very many guns, so if the the [censored] ACTUALLY hit the fan, then I'd prob just make my way to their house.

Being as I am the paranoid type, when I'm living in my own place I will more than likely have a little stash of things just in case of an emergency. Oh, and I'm already set with a ton of camping gear and the like, so that's a good portion of being prepared right there.

If a post-apoc scenario ever occurs, I'm going to don my hauberk, take up my Dane bearded axe and shield and go a viking.

No but I have prepared various weapons (cricket bat under the bed and next to each door, golf clubs in the next room, pen knives, scalpels, mechanical propellants made of mechano etcetera)

I'm sure the post apocalyptic burglars will thank you for leaving so many weapons around with house with which to subdue you :P

Well if I was in a post apocalyptic situation I doubt the people in my town would go too crazy. I'm sure there would be an angry letter to the local council and perhaps some riots stemming from the biscuit shortages but even that is a worst case scenario.

Rising oil prices and climate change are genuine realities to prepare for, if you listen to the likes of NASA, the IPCC, the IEA, the US Army.

Preperation for the absolute inevitability of unaffordable oil and an unstable climate has to be a sensible thing (although I've not started myself).

Most people accept vague ideas of stuff "getting worse", but tend towards the general complacency of "Not in my lifetime." The truth is, "it" probably will be.

Im thinking of preparing but, Im just a young one among my folks. So, it would mostly be up to them really. But I have been reading articles about survival and what not. Im the best shot among my folks. I've fired a 16 gauge bolt action shotgun. I think Id be ok. My people seem to be smart enough.

Or a parasite that takes control of the brain, such as seen in the insect kingdom.

Interesting, it seems that most people are under the belief that zombies are going to kill us all. Is this more a fantasy or do said people really believe that it could happen? Also if anyone is interested in this stuff and want some links to forums and blogs just send me a pm, I have a bunch.

Personally, if the world is going to end, I'd like it to end by zombie. I'd prefer Nazi zombies, but regular zombies will do.

Dwindling supplies and panic do things that can completely change a person.

I don't think an apocalypse is going to ever happen. When Y2K was supposed to happen I didn't even know about it until 4 years afterwards when watching kind of the hill. or family guy. I can't remember which show. haha I just don't think that we should worry!

The true apocalypse will happen in about 5 billion years, when the Sun starts to expand... so yes, the apocalypse IS going to happen one day.

5 American billion years. An english billion is 1,000,000,000,000 while an American billion is 1,000,000,000. Just to avoid confusion.

Really? Why the difference? If the English billion is the American trillion, how many people are in the world according to the English?

We used the english billion when we still had the commonwealth , it is rarely used now however in textbooks here the teachers will still say milliard for the american billion. They are different scales, american is short scale (increasing in 1000) britain is long scale (increase in millions)

And to answer your question 6 milliards.

You can think it won't happen, but shtf happens all the time, hurricanes, earthquakes, and war being some examples. Humanity has already gone through several massive world wide events. We have had the global pop go to the thousands before.

If anything happens, I'm just going to wing it. With the exception of underground shelters, you can't really plan for the apocalypse since it would be extremely unpredictable.

I'm just wondering who (if any) here actually prepare for shtf scenarios as well as survival afterwords. I myself am trying to get ready but currently only have a measly selection of firearms and supplies.

What's shtf?

It stands for "defecation" hits the fan. Its a term for a bad scenario.

I actually have some SWAT armguards, shinguards, and gloves hidden in my room for a zombie scenario. There arent any guns in my house, but I have weaponizable tools, like shovels, a pickaxe, and a sidewalk scraqer.

When I was younger, like 14 or 15 I planned and stockpiled a bugout site in the woods by my house. That's all gone now. I've put serious thought into doing so again, especially with some of the stuff that's been happening domestically and abroad.

Thats why you have a GOOD bag. It's easy to make, and you can have several in places like your house or your car. There are many different things that could happen, but you should still have a general plan.

According to my beliefs which I shall not discuss, I'm not even going to be here after the apocalypse anyway. So, no.
