Nope, I'm totally unprepared for the sort. I am a capable runner though.

I don't have any firearms, nor do I want any (maybe a solid revolver would be nice but nothing fany, I don't like automatics). But my plan is to get a sword and find a cave somewhere, a sword would be a great weapon and tool without worrying about ammo. Eventually I would look for other suriovors and try to form some sort of group or tribe (for lack of better word). I am very worried about North Korea having nukes so I think about this a lot, because we are for sure one of their main enemies (2nd only to South Korea) and tension is growing.

The thing with nukes though is Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD). NK launches their ICBM, we launch our ICBM, and then they're both screwed. No one actually wants to, so dont worry.

I've figured out my BOL in the event of a PAW or ZPAW, but in the way of weapons and gear I could do better, but that will have to wait until I've got money and am older.

The places that get hit yes, but most nukes nowadays are "clean" nukes that came around from the testing of nukes. The world won't die from a global nuclear war, there will still be life and people. Look at Chernobyl, it's just had the restrictions on Pripyat lifted.

By reading some of the answers on this thread it seems that in Zombie Invasion (or similar cenario) gamers are fully ready for it and so would survive :) Yay for gamers :P

I have a few guns around the house. Need to buy some ammo though and go to the shooting range fora bit of practice. I live and work near a store that has just everything I need for a zombie survival bag. Or I could just hole up there and live in style in the warehouse. I spend to much time figuring out what I would do if such a thing were to happen. I could put my self in the storage spaces that are 3 stories up and can be only accessed by a ladder or forklift. See the effects of pouring bleach onto zombies. Do other cleaners do a better job? Maybe munch on the pallet of trail mix and beef jerky. Stockpile guns and ammo too.

No actual "Fire arms" around my place, but I know plenty of people who do. I would honestly probably just go with the people I love and trust. My family. But not to say I haven't been planning for it. Im pretty good at hand to hand combat. Even if I am untrained. I'd go out and buy a 8 inch knife if I had the money. And Im getting a Compound Bow for my birthday.

I am going to be selling one of my rifle's, found out that the particular model I got isn't all that great. Also if people are really interested in this I would suggest reading Bug Out by Scott B. Williams, and When all Hell breaks loose by Cody Lundin. Mr. Lundin is the one with no shoe's on Dual Survival.

We used the english billion when we still had the commonwealth , it is rarely used now however in textbooks here the teachers will still say milliard for the american billion. They are different scales, american is short scale (increasing in 1000) britain is long scale (increase in millions)

And to answer your question 6 milliards.

That hasn't been the case for quite a while you know, everywhere uses 1,000,000,000 as a billion now afaik.

Also, seriously? We have a an earthquake/general emergency kit, but stockpiling guns? WTH, this isn't really helping to dispel the whole Americans are crazy stereotype.

Some stereotypes are true. But I guess we could always go back to hunting and defending ourselves against people that do have guns with sticks and stones, and of course words. :celebration:

MAD works on the assumption that the relevant actors are rational and will act accordingly. I would not pin my hopes on Kim Jong-il acting as rationality dictates.

Does shtf mean [censored] hits the fan?

Anyway, I have no firearms in my house (that I know of) besides a pellet gun and a paintball gun. If something did happen, i'd probably go raid the nearest gun store (not necessarily for killing other humans, but hunting.) and grocery store and start siphoning gas from every car I see to power my truck. Then take me and my dog and start searching for survivors to start a colony and resettle, or try to contact other countries.

I would recommend against going to a gun store, you will be more likely to be killed than anything else. They will become magnets to everyone in the area, and a lot of different types of people will come to them.

It turns out I know 46 different ways to reach the highway that would lead me down to Louisiana in case anything bad should happen. If I wasn't randomly driving around on Friday I never would have realized this.

If you can tolerate some fiction with your survivalism know-how, I'd suggest "The Survivalist" by Jerry Ahern. It's set during the Cold War, but this time someone actually hits the button and all-out nuclear war occurs. Every detail involving the guns, the knives, the accessories(binocs, camo, generators, etc) are pretty much 100% accurate, as Jerry Ahern himself was President of a Gun Company for several years, and is a big survivalist nut himself. I learned a lot reading through the books, and honestly wish I had 100k or so to blow on making a Survivalist Retreat here in the mountains I live in. There are several ideal locations around me that are quite similar to what he had his main character John Rourke build.

Filled out a disaster preparedness survey yesterday.

I have no food, no water, no fire alarms, no first aid kits, no petrol, no batteries, no radios, no portable cooking gear, no tools, no first aid knowledge and no vehicle.

I'm pretty much screwed.

Anyway in case something bad happens for example let's say a global cruel dictatorship that makes people slaves or a new Chernobyl like disaster in a bigger scale,I think all that food and guns wouldn't help too much.
Yeah, stocked food could help you... for some time and concerning it won't get irradiated or something like that.
But you can't be prepared for everything you know.

I really shouldn't even be responding to this, I know it's going to get deleted as I reported your post. I only responded to that very first part because It is a very strict part of our forum rules that religion is not to be brought into conversations and I am trying to enlighten you of the rules. Really, I don't need to bother as one of the mods will inform you of the same once they come to the thread. When you signed up for your account, you agreed to the forum rules and no religion is part of that.

Um... O.K.
I didn't knew these 2 lines would be insulting to somebody but anyway.
Let's forget that part.

I think that living far from places that there are lot of people, and more specifically inside a cave is the best way to survive at situation that the world for some reason gone FUBAR.

edit: yeah that's right.
well I think it's too difficult to be ready for everything.
Someone should spend too much time just to make some research and sit down and think all the possible things that can go wrong that for most people (ut least those who work) would take years...

That's why it's up to the individual to decide whether or not they believe that the world will encounter an Apocalyptic scenario during their lifetime, and if so, how much preparation they want to take. It's not up to one person, or a group of individuals to figure out how best for everyone to survive(unless you're specifically talking about the survival of our race as a whole, as depicted in Pandorum, or 2012, in which case large amounts of people were taken aside in an effort to retain enough of a portion of humans in order to ensure the propagation of our species). Beyond that, it just comes down to the individual, which really is what I think this entire thread is really about. How prepared or un-prepared each of us are + whether we believe we even need to think about being prepared to survive a SHTF scenario. I personally believe that there is in fact a good possibility I might live to see the end of the earth, either through Nuclear war started by some idiotic terrorist group, or through some major natural disaster such as a Super Volcano erupting and spewing forth enough ash to envelop most/all of the earth and send us back into an Ice Age. On the other hand, I don't have the money or time to develop a good survivalist plan, however if my fortunes ever change, I probably will make a survivalist retreat and stockpile at least a years worth of food/water + guns and ammo + a generator and fuel to run it.
