Post Apocalyptic Survivalists

Post » Sun Jan 09, 2011 2:19 am

I'm just wondering who (if any) here actually prepare for shtf scenarios as well as survival afterwords. I myself am trying to get ready but currently only have a measly selection of firearms and supplies.

Having two members of the military in my family, along with several hunters and shooting enthusiasts (including myself) our house is well equipped with firearms, although I don't know why on Earth we would need them.

As for survival, I do have a sketchy sorta plan, but I'm sure we'd work out the details if / when it happened..

No guns, nothing. I can't imagine any realistic (not zombie) situation happening in The Netherlands where I would need them.

Nope, as most shtf scenarios that I imagine would probably mean I'd be grouped in with the first lot of casualties. The only one where this wouldn't be true would be the no electricity scenario from "one second after" (v. good read), in which case I think I'd have a slim chance of survival. Very slim though.

The dikes might break. So we'd need to plan an emergency escape to the roof, and bring enough food to last the two or three hours that our government will need to send boats and helicopters. Yes, post apocalyptic horrors indeed.

I'll get a gun so I can shoot at the sea then. :P

While I sometimes think it's not the dumbest thing in the world to do, I never have nor really plan to. There always is a chance that something can happen though, so I might be eating those words someday.

This.

I'm not storing water/food/medical supplies though because quite frankly my house is too small to do that. Also I'm fairly sure it would freak boyfriend out. ;)

I voted "yes" but you really need an option for "I'm working on it."

I doubt anyone is ever truly prepare for such a thing.

No but I have prepared various weapons (cricket bat under the bed and next to each door, golf clubs in the next room, pen knives, scalpels, mechanical propellants made of mechano etcetera) , escape routes, emergency food, stores of water, emergency fuel stores, binoculars, emergency stockpiles of books, conference room in my bedroom on the top floor (with 6 screens, whiteboard, 2 desks, computers, PS3, Xbox, Aeroplane frequency radio, modern radio, microscopes, soap, cameras, bed, chairs, tents, sleeping bags etcetera) and countless other plans however this is not necessarily for an apocalypse, it is merely a multipurpose set of plans for any bad scenario (war, asteroid hitting earth, super volcano, nuclear war (followed by nuclear winter) etcetera).

But one thing's for sure, we can give them a damn good thrashing.

I'm not preparing for zombie invasion.

I keep my guns and ammo in a storage room just in case and have a bugout location not too far away from where I live. Unfortunately, it does not have a fallout shelter. I've practiced some water purification and other stuff in case of apocalypse.

You may hit a fish, so you won't have to bring food to the roof. Of course, then you'd have to make a fire on top of your house to prepare the fish.

I don't really have a plan, but I do have the necessary tools that will give me an advantage over many people.

This. My mall has a gun store. That's my plan.

I read somewhere that a good chunk (I don't remember the exact number) of men from 16-35 have a zombie plan.

I think about it but I'm not really sure I could prepare for it, or what I could do even if I did.

And I'm definitely not talking about zombies here...

Likely all involving raiding the local mall.

Wouldn't rely on that. I'd imagine a gun store would be pretty heavily locked down....

Exactly my plan! Cut through the gate and lock up behind me. Take humans in, keep zombies out. I figure with the food at the mall, we can survive for a month or more (Assuming the food places can store properly)

I live in wles, we hav eplent of rain, no issue, sheep provide food an wool, no issues with food and clothing, as for guns meh not may people have them, so no issue.
Besides S Wales isint that important, its england people would try to nuke so we will be fine, irradiated but fine.
I hear N wwales is even less populated so I would probablly move up there. Only issue would be having to learn welsh.

So yeah my plan is stay in Wales, weather svcks, but due to lack of guns and penty of food/sheep we will be fine, still have a [censored] problem though (unless they die out because the economy will have collapsed), well no where is perfect.

If this is a zombie scenario then I will just wait up high with food I guess till the zombies die off, if its an airborne virus just become a zombie.

Allthough if I everbuy my own house, bomb shelter will be built.

The closest mall to me is 45 minutes driving. That ain't my plan.

I don't have anything prepared, but I'm sure I could figure something out fast. Number 1 thing I have to do is find my brother then go from there.

My dad is really into survivalism and that kinda stuff and I don't really care for it, doesn't help that he is rather paranoid nor is it a life style I have any interest for. Might have something to do with the fact that I have the self preservation of a ham sandwich.

Interesting, it seems that most people are under the belief that zombies are going to kill us all. Is this more a fantasy or do said people really believe that it could happen? Also if anyone is interested in this stuff and want some links to forums and blogs just send me a pm, I have a bunch.
