Post launch issues, my experience !SPOILER!

Post » Sun Oct 31, 2010 10:48 pm

The reason I type spoiler in subject is because there may be elements that spoil. There is no intention though.

I bought the game prior to release. Got my redeem code and everything. The game launched. No problems until I actually had to do things. I quickly realised that crysis 2 was most likely pushed out the door too early. Because this is what happened. See it as a rant if you will, but that is not the tone I'm trying to convey. I'm just trying to give some feedback so that crytek in the future will do smoother and probably better appreciated game launches. A satisfied customer is good business, no?

First I couldn't login with my account, because I couldn't remember my previous nickname. So I went to the world wide web scouring the forums. I found after a while that I was on the wrong forum, and redirected to mycrisis.com where I tried to login with my current email. The login box accepted that I had logged in, but as soon as I went to an other page on this website I got logged out. So I couldn't get passed the login screen really unless I created a new email account. I didn't want to do this, because simply .. I don't want several inboxes. It just complicates things. I spent an evening on this in total and I'm pretty calm about it, but I can imagine the rage in some households.

So I went ahead and started playing the campaign. There I was met with several issues which annoyed me. Glitches, seemingly untested mechanics and something that looks like a fallout of insufficient beta test feedback, like for example:

- Getting sandwiched in a cavity due to the ability to jump high. A map bug. The annoying part was being shot to pieces while I was stuck. I managed to handle the enemy, but it took me 2 minutes to figure out how to get unstuck.
- Having inconsistent difficulty throughout the game. I set it to "normal". However, at times I thought I was playing without enemies. Other times I was faced with 4-5 enemies that were unbelievably difficult. They all signaled eachother so that all of them instantly knew I was there and there was no way of escaping and hiding. I won't spoil the story, but let's just say it's one of the latter enemies.
- Meeting enemies that could not be defeated using my type of gameplay - stealth. I tried sneaking around, but that wasn't possible because there was not enough energy to do that. So I had to use power, which is not my prowess. Getting them all killed using that took about 10 tries. Also in the same scene there was a gunship that saw right through my invisibility even if I was standing still. So I had to enter the area, then quickly exit and wait out the gunship. I couldn't even have it in my sight. And when I was hiding behind a wall, it still shot at the wall because it knew where I was.
- The visor was inconsistent in marking enemies. I thought it was "mark an enemy and he is marked", but apparently there are two ways of marking enemies. And I still haven't figured out the use of it. And the markers themselves were pretty vague.
- Nanovision, drains energy too rapidly. Felt pretty odd having a flir gadget in my visor that drains energy that rapidly. I kept thinking what a military man would say about the battery time. More time that I had wished for it was off, because I needed the energy for stealth and last ditch armor.
- Sniping enemies at a distance. Nobody panicked. I shot several enemies in groups in the head. Nobody ran for cover. They went up to the corpse. Looked at it. Stood still. Great if you just want to snipe, but terrible for immersion.
- A specific scene where you fight off a gunship several times. Shot it so that it went away two or three times. Then I thought I was alone. Looking for a exit for 5-10 minutes. After that I realise.. what's that in the distance? Yep, gunship. It should've been more ominous.
- Suit rescusitation. Resets scenes. The avatar was "out", I was pretty immersed in the game myself. Finished the rescusitation, and after that some enemy starts approaching. So I push some buttons to see if I should move or not. I hit the button previously set to rescusitation, and bingo. I have to watch the enemy approaching scene all over again.
- Then there's the serial key not registering in the login prompt.
- Sometimes I used suit modes less time than it took the sound effect to play. "NANOVISION ENGA" *off*
- What happened to graphical settings? I feel limited by them.

What about multiplayer?
- Nanovision activation goes off like a horn and I saw that others have noticed this in the forums. I went looking for options to turn off suit effects. They're visually there, so I don't really need the sounds. And in multiplayer it becomes a distraction and therefore a nuisance. I don't use it anymore, and it's a pity because you get points for marking enemies.
- Armor mode doesn't give me the feeling of being armored. I notice that killing people with armor is hard, but trying to stay alive with armor is about as effective as not using armor. Only time it's useful is when the enemy is shooting from the hip and therefore not hitting anything. Thus just using cloak is more effective. And you shine like a christmas tree using it, so you draw attention quickly. Get the first guy killed, then your energy is out and the guy around the corner gets an easy kill. So gameplay with armor is practically setting yourself up for a 1:1 k/d ratio at best.
- Aimbots, I noticed this being addressed in a upcoming patch. Make it soon. Because we can't kick the aimbotters and have to leave the servers. That puts a forfeit in our records. Not to mention it wrecks the interest in the game.
- Lurking is too effective. Sitting with cloak on in some dark place, camping with a shotgun. And if not remedied, this will be how all players will play in the future. I've seen it happen to games before.
- Something becomes different when activating the ironsights. I don't know if it's the fov or the sensitivity, but there is inconsistency and I feel that it becomes way more sensitive when I activate it. So I keep overshooting and undershooting my targets as a consequence. Since there is no setting for it in the menues, I can't adjust it. And I don't want to have to get into configs to fix it.
- Nobody uses voip on public servers. Nothing new really, but I think there should be some sort of incentive. Otherwise just leave the function out.

Forum specific:
You can edit the visuals (bold, italic, list etc) of your post, but you can't look at a preview like in a wiki. Since the post is going up high and people will be reading it immediately, if using visuals it would be nice to know if it's readable before pushing "submit".

And that's all I can think of right now. I'll see if I can come up with more, because I'm going to play some right now.

It's a lot of text for a reason. It's feedback to developers. Not you. Apparently you can't grasp that fact. This forum is not only a channel to other customers and prospects, but it's a channel to crytek. And they have people reading this.

To respond to your specific post:
You use unnecessary amount of returns with intent.
You use caps with intent.
Above points make YOUR reply more unreadable than mine. It doesn't even work for a traffic sign.
Your post points out that I use a lot of text, but it contributes nothing. It's not constructive.
Your post only agitates and further derails my thread possibly voiding my message to the devs.

To fix that you need to:
Only reply when people want to read your reply.
Contribute to the solution or advance the discourse by showing the complexities of the situation.

To fix that I need to:
a) Teach you how to post
b) Ask a forum admin to ban you.

Making the assessment that you can't/won't read the text above and probably won't learn a thing, I'm going for option B.

You derailed the subject.
You keep derailing the subject.
Yet again you did not read or understand my post.

How i am behaving like a child? just for one post and then i explain myself therefore i am a child? Also if you want to be technical i didnt derail the post, i just said this is a lot of text which it clearly was (in yes a childish manner), so i was on topic. You are the one who derailed the post in explaining how my post was stupid then you further derail your post when you further explain why my post is stupid. GOOD JOB!

How i am behaving like a child?
- You're off topic and keep doing that.

just for one post and then i explain myself therefore i am a child?
- Still off topic. There is a pm function, don't use threads for that.

Also if you want to be technical i didnt derail the post, i just said this is a lot of text which it clearly was (in yes a childish manner), so i was on topic.
- No, you only commented on the format of the first post. Even if your reply would've been readable then it still wouldn't have contributed because you didn't handle the topic at all.

You are the one who derailed the post in explaining how my post was stupid then you further derail your post when you further explain why my post is stupid. GOOD JOB!
- I'm working on it. I've sent a message to the admins to handle you. I shouldn't have to do this in-thread. The thread was derailed on first reply.

- It's an open letter communication to developers. They read forums. It would be damaging or even fatal to repeated business if they don't want to know the reactions of their own customer base so that they can improve their product.

this is fun:

you say i am off topic yet you make 2 off topic posts one after another

and no i was not off topic, you are in charge of were the topic goes you are the OP, because you respond to me the way you did you have changed the topic so i was still on topic.

you tell me i could have PMed you. and you could have PMed me, kinda hypocritical isnt it?

and it looks like you are new to forums so i will just explain to you something. I have not broken any of the forum rules so i wont be banned for this, also you are feeding it, so you are just as guilty. also the chances a DEV will actually look at this is slim to non.

not to mention me posting here is helping you get to the top considering it looks like everyone has the same idea my first post said.

you can simplu stop replying to me on how i am off topic and ask me an on topic question so i do not have to RE READ the entire story of a post.
