Post Red Year Dunmeri Culture

So, yeah. I've been doing a lot of thinking on this. We see evidence in Skyrim of a return to Good Daedra worship in the mainstream (the pilgrim heading to the shrine of Azura, Boethiah's High Priestess is a Dunmer, the presence of two possible Morag Tong members/former members in Whiterun). Of course, this could also just be coincidence. We know the Most Honorable Great House Redoran lives in some form, thanks to a line from Astrid. Its unlikely the Telvanni were completely destroyed, and those Imperial prosttutes known as the 'Hlaalu' are unfortunately quite resourceful. What I'm really interested in though is their religion. The aforementioned examples, as already stated, may or may not point to Good Daedra worship. I'm thinking they don't. Dunmer are more likely than anybody to be worshiping these particular Daedra. They could quite possibly be Ashlander exiles. Plus, I don't think a return to Velothi thinking is very interesting. We have to take into account just how confused they most be regarding deities. ALMSIVI is two thirds dead, with the remaining fractal no where to be found. So what are y'alls thoughts on the matter? Perhaps they've found A New Old Thing to Love. Eyes are masked by Ebony Scarabs.

I apologize for the less than fluid OP.

This is monkey truth, but I like it personally.

I actually bookmarked that as soon as it was posted.

I like it too, and would love for it to become canon, but it doesn't really cover the theological questions. Granted, these are particularly tough things to tackle sense we have little to no information to go on.

Its not a return. Its a rebirth.

I think I kinda sorta see a little bit what you are getting at with that statement. Maybe. Well, I suppose we should look to recent events to determine just how the Dunmer view their new-found old faith. Just how do we think ALMSIVI's presence and absence have effected their interpretation of the Good'ins? I've got nothing, really. I mean, I have ideas, I just don't feel like they're up to par.

The Dunmer religious beliefs must be scattered. Some believe one thing while others believe another, and even more that don't know what to believe after Red Year. I wouldn't assume there is any singularity among their beliefs going on what we know from Skyrim. Daedra worship may be prevalent again, but I wouldn't be surprised if some Dunmer turned their back on religion all together. With the abandonment of the Tribunal, God-Kings that actually walked and talked with them, how could they believe in anything anymore?

I actually considered that myself, but I can't really imagine a peoples in TES without some kind of unified belief. The only thing I'm confident about, regardless of deity, is ancestor worship. Something tells me it'll take an even bigger role in Dunmeri society than it already had.

Even in Morrowind (the game), it had been a long time since the Tribunes had actually walked among the people. The Temple organization, even then, was more based on devotion to the saints and priests, and could probably survive a small detail like their chief deities losing their divinity (and then getting murdered).

That, plus the fact that Azura sent visions to her priests to guide many Dunmer away from Vvardenfell before Lie Rock actually fell, could indicate a new Temple based on ancestor veneration (focusing on the saints) and worship of the Anticipations in lieu of the Tribunes. At least in my view.
