I miss the days when a game was released, it was released, and the developers couldn't touch it afterwards. (unless of course they were willing to make a completely new storyline and call it an "expansion pack")
Games have code that is magnitudes more complex these days. Millions of lines of code instead of just thousands.
mw2, bc2, and now black ops all shiped out chalk full of bugs and had to be fixed (or will be fixed) via a patch. Crytek, I implore you not to let this happen for crysis 2. Thanks!
There are too many variables these days. At the base though, Crysis 2 will be better thanks to Live Create in terms of compatibility issues (since none of the versions will actually be ports, thankfully), but there are still just too many variables for developers to account for when releasing a new title.
