A Post-War Vegas RP: Seeking potential RP'ers

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:06 pm

So, I've been thinking of an RP starting on October 22,2077, the day before the Great War, and moving the story along to the process of a collapse of law and order into anarchy. The thing is, an RP isn't any good without role players. Here's the basic premise, your character can start anywhere in the Vegas region, they don't have to have been born there, just visiting it at least, born and raised in the area at most. I'm kind of imagining it could start off with us all on our own (Or with another RPer if you want to RP as friends/relatives) and either become allies in trying to survive, or enemies against each other. I don't have much of the story set in stone, but if people are intrigued by this, I'll be more than happy to take suggestions and etc.

Right now, this is an OOC thread, until we get it all up and running, then I'll make the RP thread. To make it clear, since this is just before and after the Bombs, there is no NCR, Kings, Legion, or any mutants. This is playing on the aspect of the collapse of a civilized society.

General Forum rules apply, but all in all, in the story, avoid using censored curse words, I can't speak for all of us, but it breaks my intrigue in a post to see someone saying 'then tied up he said to the captives 'Go [Censored] Yourself'

Sounds kinda of like Dog City right now, not unusual considering how simple the concept is: Survival.

It would be fun though, this RP.

But, do you have an plans for a story or is more of a "let everyone fend for themselves after the devastation and have them carve their own paths up into the new social hierarchy of the wastes" kinda thing?

Either way I think it would work.

Oh really? Serves me right for neglecting the Fan Ficton forum. Well, my idea is that the story will be 'survive'. I've never been one to find that violence for violence sake fun, nor cool. I think maybe it could possibly evolve into us holding up in a location and turning it into a safehaven, perhaps McCarren or one of the buildings long gone by the time Fallout: New Vegas takes place. I'd like to develop a story, but I usually play 'let it flow' since I don't care for an RP thats every move is planned out. So far my main idea is that after a few posts, we'll move onto the evening of the Great War. Some of us, maybe all of us, witnessing House's laser defenses destroying the bombs, then the rioters, and the police hard pressed to maintain order, and if the story is popular, on the 24th, I'm thinking we could make it so power on a large scale in the city goes out, what power is left will be scarce, and anyone in posession of a generator will be a high value target.

OR, this story could devolve into us all heading for Vault 3 or 21 and by some luck, it'd still have space. Actually, it wouldnt be a bad idea if it falls that way, but like I said, it'd be sad if only 1-2 people joing up :cryvaultboy:

I like it too. Vegas is an interesting setting. I haven't actually played New Vegas...but isn't there kind of some degree of canon anyway? House and his use of robots and whatnot?

Again, I haven't play New Vegas, so that might work perfectly to your plans.

If I remember correctly, there's a number of years before House actually comes back into the picture after the Great War-he protected Vegas largely from the bombs and put himself in a life support of sorts to continue living even after the time he should have died. The Families on the Strip are even tribes from before he returned that he fancied enough to keep there.

Anyhow, I probably won't join-only on the account I'm already in two RPs(although I need to make characters for one) while in my last month of school-meaning two projects and about five finals to worry about. If I ever have the free time, though, I'd absolutely love to join. :] It'd be kind of fun to play Vegas, all those years before the game for it took place, for the most part not hit like it should have been but still wrecked by chaos and the annihilation of parts of the Mojave Wasteland and the rest of the world-though it probably wouldn't be called New Vegas.

To add on to what Tick said, House, in Beatrix's words, 'Didn't make a peep for near 200 years'. So after the War, the Lucky 38 will more or less be a landmark for us to use in some way. IE locating where the player is if they're out in the world somewhere. Which would you guys prefer? A city with barely power, or pitch black? I like the idea of little power, it induces the true value of electricity in my mind. Anyway, if anyone want's to be a police officer or soldier to start, their welcome to do so.

@Bar- I don't see how that would work. Knowing what you know, you'd be an Enclave member, pick another role to start with.

I'm pleasantly surprised that people are warming up to this idea. If anyone else want's to join, feel free to say 'I'd like to join up' at any time, and submit a character sheet, and you're good to go.

@ NuclearNope- I accept all applicates so long as they play by Beth rules and the typical RP rules, No Godmoding without permission, be respectful ooc and all that. However, I'm a bit more of a hardliner about 'retro', so I don't welcome cell phones, iPods and all that other modern day tech, I prefer a 1950's Americana atmosphere to add that sense of nostalgia. (Though Vegas itself is modelled after the way it was in the 1960's)

@ Bar- I'd really rather you don't. I'd imagine anyone with any idea of Helios Ones true intent would be in a secure bunker before the war started. There are plenty of other opportunities to start out in other places. Goodsprings, Primm, Las Vegas, Hidden Valley, the Dino-Delite Motel (IE Novac), Nipton, even places like Cottonwood Cove, which seems to have been an old camping grounds. Unless you want to RP you by some fortune left Black Mountain or Nellis just before they were bombed, you're free to do so. Just bear in mind you can't occupy these places, as they will be STRONGLY radioactive.

I'd be more then willing to join, I've been looking for another RP to fill the void since New Manhattan is "closing down" for a little while.

Still, Like Yttrium stated, Dog City seems to be circled around the same concept, which was the RP I originally planned on joining.

If you create a full outline, maybe develop the plot, and the players that join are a good bunch, Count me in. :)

@Bar- No. Enclave. Anything. :stare:

Alrighty, I'll start pulling out character sheets.

Name:
Age:
Main skills:
Apparel (If you like, food can be an apparel as well):
Brief Summary of your character, this can be explained in the RP if you so wish:
Starting Location in the RP:

Edit @ Dead- I'll likely do so in the first post, since it'll begin the day of the war. I was going to start it the day before, but I feel it won't accomplish much, unless others here have a Pre-War fetish like I do

Rest assured, I wont neglect the plot itself. It'll be fully crafted in my narrations, which are essentially 'God' Posts. IE, the omnipitent narrations to move time along.

You should know by know I'm pretty impartial outside of debates. I just don't logically see the point in a single Enclave member being there, where as the rest have long since fled to secret bunkers.

Edit: With that uniform, so help me if you turn into an Enclave character in the RP, I'll kick you in the shin. :stare:
