Post your Setup and FPS rate

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:51 am

When I got my last desktop back in 2005, Oblivion was too much for it to handle but now that I've finally got a new PC I can run it up max at a constant 75fps. So I was just wondering what spec of rigs other people have here and what their fps rate is.

Mine is:

Intel i5-2500k
4GB RAM
GTS250 1GB
Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4
Corsair HX850W PSU

Settings: 1280x1024, all settings up max at 2x AA and AF.

FPS: 75fps constant.

This isn't about showing off your PC but just stating how far PCs have come along since I was last in the PC scene and how this resource hog of a game is now tames with modern hardware.

Includes limited installations of QTP3R and RAEVWD. TES4LODGen has been run.

FPS is clamped to a max of 30, and my game only dips below that when around large cities or villages with a lot of NPC activity, even then, it never goes below 15.
I'd say I'm playing mice and smooth. :)

On my M11x I play at high settings 1366x768 with no AA and generally get 30-50 fps all the time.

On my Asus I play at high settings 1600x900 with 2x AA and have FPS capped at 45 which it rarely goes below.

Interested to see more of these, actually..
Will log my numbers once I've completed my new 2GB 6950 PC. Hoping to get at least an average of 50-60 with the some 200 mods I plan on stuffing it with...

My PC is fairly new. It's a black one with pretty blue lights. It has little whirring fans and, I'm given to understand, lots of gigajuice and awesomesauce inside. Anyway, I have a couple dozen mods and have the game settings at ExtraPretty. It all runs real nice and smoothly. :twirl:

I have an i7 with 12 gig of ram, and a Nvidia GTX 580. I tried out the fps in FRAPs the other night, and average around 90fps out in the great forest, without rain. I have most of the bells and whistles of the game turned up to max, but not all of them. I also run it at 1920 X1080. I would go lower, but that is my monitor's native resolution, and if I reduce it, the picture looks fuzzy. So I am pretty much stuck with it up that high.

You would think it would run great, but it really does not. It still stutters sometimes, even though I have v-sync forced off to the get the most speed. I tried Oblivion Stutter Remover, and that did absolutely nothing. I even tried a utility that makes the executable use twice the amount of ram. Also no change at all. On the other hand Fallout 3, which looks even better, runs smooth as silk all the time.

I use a bunch of mods too. But the exact loadout varies per character (I don't bother turning on .esp files for things I my current character is never going to use). Usually it is about two dozen mods or so. Most were made by myself to fix gameplay things I did not like. The biggest one changes the npcs faces to make them look nicer, and also gives them racial characteristics (i.e. Nords have blond or red hair, Imperials have black hair, etc...). I do have a few armor and clothing mods I have downloaded as well.

Intel Core 2 Duo 3200MHz (overclocked)
Bad Axe 2 D975XbX2 motherboard
Raptor 150 gig 10,000 rpm 16mb cache
2 gigs DDr RAM
GeForce 9800 GTX+ (1024MB)
Creative X-Fi Xtreme audio
Dell 3007WFP 30" LCD (2560 x 1600 resolution)

There are about 20 mods I use for every character. Like SubRosa I tailor the rest of my mod lists to specific characters' needs. I usually end up with about 100-150 these days (down from ~500 back in my Morrowind days). Believe it or not in all the years I've played Elder Scrolls games I have never checked to see what my frame rates are. It doesn't interest me. If I feel I have a problem I do something to fix it, otherwise I play and forget about it.

But for what it's worth I rarely notice much stuttering. I see it in towns occasionally when using Better Cities or when fighting multiple enemies in grass in the Gold Coast.

I dont have an i7 or i5 or a i7 980x hexacore. I am running the game on a radeon HD2600 and prescott 3.4 processor, at 1152x864 with 8x anti-aliasing from the catalyst control centre and all settings high. It's an enjoyable experience for little money.

Been doing alot of upgrades on all fronts the past few months-

Intel 2.5 Quadcore
2 gigs of ram,
Radeon 5770
Play at a resolution of 1366x768 with everything maxed and silky smooth framerates on my Samsung SyncMaster E1920 monitor.
Onboard Realtek audio going out to a ONKYO TX-8555 stereo reciever which am using Audio Technica Ath AD700 and Koss UR40 headphones along with other headphones for sound. Will soon be getting some speakers for those day time moments of charging the air with audio life to counter the silence of death and the negative attitude of unreasonble old people who complain about anything even of walking barefoot on a creaking floor so as not to bother them with the sound of shoes. What a lousy way to spend their golden years. Oh well its their stress and their health. Right now am using some temporary Bose Companion II speakers but they override the ONKYO reciever treble/bass controls due to them being desktop speakers and not actual stereo reciever speakers.

At the moment am not using any mods just the Game Of The Year Edition of Oblivion and what came with it aswell as the DLCs from the Knights Of The Nine DLC collection. Noticed the more time passes the more i enjoy the original versions of MORROWIND and OBLIVION. FALLOUT 3 though is getting plenty of mod loving at the moment. Hopefully i can control myself long enough to enjoy TES V SKYRIM without any mods for at least two complete playthroughs :D

My rig:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @ 3Ghz (not overclocked)
8GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 - 2GB RAM
Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU
On-board audio
Windows 7 64-bit

Now, as for Oblivion: I run in windowed mode, being a terminal multitasker, at 1360x768. AA is off, HDR is on, distant land is on; everything else is on / set to high.

However, I'm also a serial modder...so I run the game with ~140 some mods, including some texture replacers like Qarl's, although I use the Redimized version. I also run with OBGE (hence AA being disabled), with the following shaders: Color Mood, Godrays, Normal AA, obsharpen, and Crysis DoF. The end result is gorgeous and totally playable; in exteriors (where I usually find the most FPS drain), I average 45-50FPS.

In my experience the real FPS killers have been SSAO shaders and using RAEVWD. I left RAEVWD out of my current Oblivion build and gained ~15FPS outdoors. :twirl:
