To play again as the Lone Wanderer. To become again, myself in game, the Lone Wanderer. It is unrealistic to want this because this is a new game, a new locale, a new survivor come out of the vault post-apocalypse. I expect this new game, since it is from Bethesda, will retain something of the personally compelling quality evoked by the Lone Wanderer in the character of the new survivor. That is my unrealistic expectation. What do you think?

Well put Gizmo. Yours is a more absolute unrealistic expectation, and feeds my hope that FO4 will recapitulate what FO3 achieved in this area and is why it could be played as if for the first time for at least the first hundred replays and for at least the first few years.

Indeed.

*Though ~to be clear, it was of course meant as unfortunate; as in being unrealistic to hope for it to be otherwise.

The game will come with an unending supply of booze, strippers, and drugs.

The above message is a joke for those who don't get jokes.

The joke would be if it did; and did so to justify the M rating.

Doesn't take a whole lot to get a M rating now-a-days.

Those were my unrealistic expectations though, just for poops and giggles.

Other than from a realism perspective (making a tower that reaches the skybox or something crazy like that) I'd argue it likely is a console issue. Having to keep track of too many objects in one area would likely cause some issues for a low end PC or console. Most people likely wouldn't experience it, but there are jerks like me that wouldn't stop pushing the envelope until my console caught fire.

Personally, I would've liked them to keep it to an area. After all, building a city spanning half the wasteland would be ridiculous. Instead, Bethesda seemingly bases size off of number of objects within your settlement (doors, walls, etc.). My interpretation of that is that they did that to ensure good performance.

My unrealistic expectation is that there will be a massive number of switches and dials to ultimately customize the difficulty, realism, and lore friendliness so as to create a unique experience for the individual player.

My other unrealistic expectation is that the economy portion of the settlement mechanic will allow for resource trading with NPC factions.

My third unrealistic expectation is that raiders have times when they are sober and therefore approachable as a faction in order to hammer out non aggression pacts or even mutually beneficial treaties.

The list goes on; Physics hair that is more than just a wild bouncing mass. Physics clothing that blows in the wind. A man portable Wave Motion Cannon. A massive vault intended to house many more people that the typical vault. Space travel between solar system planets. An adaptive, intelligent AI that will properly utilize enemies and have them coordinate attacks, withdraw, ambush or whatever other thing they do. A realistic voice synthesis routine that can emulate multiple voices and create real time responses so that any upcoming mods have full voice support. Nuka Cola that acts like Popeye's Spinach.

The game to be released this weekend.

that there is a option to turn off the voiced character and go back to a more skyrim style dialogue system

that this rubberband scalling system will not kill any free exploration

i can kill that obnoxious overhyped stupid dog outright

They probably just didn't want these ridiculous looking towers being put up on Youtube and in other places. People would present them in a way that makes the game look like it was poorly designed for the sake of controversy and views. They already do that now with rare bugs that they pretend are common occurrences. Without the proper context people will see that and say "Eh, I don't want to play that game." It's bad marketing.

Even if that wasn't the case the consoles aren't the problem. Both consoles have more than enough memory too track those objects. Essentially each GPU has about 3-4GB of VRAM that it can take advantage of (out of the 8GB total shared memory pool) so if anything a 2GB GTX 660 is the more likely culprit.

I was thinking it might be more of an issue with the physics engine. Although the PS4 and Xbox One are (relatively) powerful in comparison to the previous generation, I'd imagine that having too many NPCs (caravans, raiders, etc.) in one area along with items would take a toll on the GPU. Add in if they start to fight each other and somebody whips out a Fatman and ends up blowing away your collection of iguana sticks you had lying on your table in your base. I don't know how conservative this game is with resources. It may handle that just fine, or it may slow down to a crawl. As for Bethesda not wanting people to create comically massive structures, I'm not so sure...I'd personally buy the game just for that. The structures in the trailer were pretty over the top in their own way. Again, this is just me guessing. You might be right.

Edit: lol Bethesda's censor changes my nickname for the Xbox One. Come on, guys, it's a term of endearment.

Unrealistic expectation: that the lack of a level cap won't totally mess up play balance.

My unrealistic expectation is that everyone that's ever had a complaint will have their complaints answered by the modding community, but, under condition that everyone that's ever actually complained will have every electronic device capable of playing any version of the Fallout franchise asplode; leaving only those who've never actually complained about anything unscathed, and free to mod away and play away.

@ix09 That is a neat avatar.

My [other] unrealistic expectation, is for Zenimax to buy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7qY7s1tCtU outright, and replace VATS with its combat mechanics. :chaos:

It sounds like they have already factored that in. They've talked about random huge scale battles between factions and the game will be much more densely populated than previous games. I personally don't believe they are going to push the console version graphically at all just to make sure they have enough head room for the AI and physics to go crazy.

That's actually a very good point. Add to that the amount of time F4 has likely been in production, the graphics Bethesda is using likely won't be super intensive. You know, maybe they limited the size due to the AI? After all, the AI would have to navigate a player made structure. Perhaps the pathing algorithms the AI uses has a hard time navigating super large structures?

Yeah, I didn't think about that. There will always be the possibility that you will have a bunch of NPCs at your settlement.

Another unrealistic expectation
AI won't be completely stupid.
they mentioned that you can call in air support, so hopefully the raiders who have you pinned will back off a bit and find some cover and even more importantly the vertibird involved won't shoot at the axe-wielding raiders right in front of you killing you in the process
