Post Your Unrealistic Expectations

Post here the unrealistic expectations you had/have for Fallout 4!

I'll start:

I was highly disappointed by there being a size limit on settlements. Yes, I know consoles aren't powerful enough to just make a large city. Yes, I know that the settlements we can make will likely be larger than any housing we've ever had in a Bethesda game. No, I don't care, I wanted mah city. The idea that no matter what I do, I can't make the largest settlement in the game gets under my skin like crazy.

I want the 4th Rank of the animal friend perk to allow me to Saddle Deathclaws, Yao Guais, etc. and Ride them into battle.

We don't quite know what that limit pertains to yet. but even if it does end up limiting it to some degree I imagine it will be a Very good size, Or possibly the limit will be based on the particular site that you are building at. IE; A small little suburb would have less space, than say, a big open parking lot, or field, etc.

I could See this being one of the first things to be modded around/out, or maybe it may even possible to disable it through the console.

That we'd play a Sole Survivor with a synthetic arm/leg. Why? Because we clearly are playing a badass veteran, the Institute does the Synth stuff, so of COURSE he/she has to have a synthetic arm/leg. When am I going to play a one-armed/one-legged protagonist!!

I'm 50/50 joking and not joking. :P

I want a Wasteland the same scale and size as Daggerfall with Xbox1 and PS4 style graphics. Never mind the fact that it would take NASA and MIT with a small army of programmers to make with an unlimited budget. Details, details!

Ability to mod in new additional (add to existing) Animations more practical (better) than we could in Skyrim and No scripting lag issues...

Actually from some posts by BETH's senior programmer the scripting language he created may be more optimised this time. It was a brand new thing in skyrim.

So having a few years to polish it may have helped. I am wishing very hard on that one.

Well, that is very unrealistic.

Personally, I expect my Sugar Bombs still to be on my breakfast table after 200 years in Vault 111.

Good writing... there's nothing to suggest we'll get it and history implies we wont.

That the plot won't in anyway involve saving androids from the Institute.

I like your thinking. ;)

Army of Yao Guai who live in my Settlement (Castle). Also, mountable Turrets and Cannons on my Yao Guai. Turn them into War Machines!

I had the apparently unrealistic expectation that they hired Obsidian to take notes from them on what makes a proper Fallout game in order to try to learn how to develop a Fallout game that caters to both the old and the new fanbase. Instead it looks like they took notes from Skyrim.

This is actually a good one. No matter what side of the fence you're on, fan or not, whatever, Bethesda has not been known for their writing at all. I can't think of one game they've ever made that made me appreciate their quality of writing. I'm really hoping this isn't an unrealistic expectation lol

I'll say it again: Bethesda's at their best when they write politics. The politics are the most interesting thing about the TES games (sorely missed from Oblivion), and I thought the way they handled the Brotherhood of Steel in 3 (with the schism, the outcasts, and pretty much every named Brotherhood member having an opinion on Lyons) was one of the stronger points of that game's story... which doesn't mean much around here, of course.

Their world-ending threats, of course, aren't very compelling compared to the world-ending threats we see in virtually every other major RPG.

That true, but everything else, they could definitely use an improvement. It's been this way since all the way back to Arena. It's like they can't write compelling dialog. I'm not even asking for Planescape quality here, just something a little bit more than passable for a game that is so huge in scope. We can only expect so much though lol

Melee combat and animations as least as good as my heavily modded Skyrim.

That Fallout 4 will have no bugs and it will stay at 30FPS throughout the entire game.

I'm somewhat a Bethesda apologist, but even I'm laughing at this one. Hell, I bet even the Fallout dev team is.

There is some spectacularly good writing in Fallout 3.... it's just not in any Quest or NPC dialogue. It's in journals/terminals/diaries.
