Mesh refuses to show new texture.

Post » Sat Oct 23, 2010 7:18 pm

I made a blue texture for the citadelpleximap01.nif (the glowing orange map of the Wasteland found in the Citadel Lab). I put the new texture into the Texture Set heading and tried to apply it to the mesh that way, but it still shows up orange. I then tried applying the texture directly to the .nif in NifSkope and saved it as a new mesh. It displays correctly in NifSkope (nice blue texture), but still shows up orange in the GECK when I add it in. How can I make this blasted thing display the new texture?

Did you change the emmisive color?

I made mine green. My use for it: http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l237/WillieSea/Vault064/V64Screen08.jpg

Nope, forgot about that. What do I need to change it to?

Well, since you made a blue texture, I assume you want the emmision to be blue as well. Instead of orange.

Just double click on it and you will be presented with a Red, Green and Blue entry boxes. Make red and green zero and make blue any number from 0.5 to 1.0.

Not sure what you mean there. When I double click in NifSkope, I don't get the Red, Green & Blue entry boxes, or anything at all for that matter. When I click on the icon next to NiMaterialProperty, I'm presented with options to change Specular Color, Alpha & Emmisive Color, but changing these has no effect on the appearance in the GECK. Obviously I'm doing something wrong here, but what? If you want to look at the files to find where I borked up, here's a link: http://www.4shared.com/file/SA0YdDAk/Problem_Map.html

Grr..Simple retextures like this are sooo much easier in Oblivion.

Pictures worth a thousand words.

You need to find the correct 'emissive' to change that affects the screen. You might also need to make the EmitMulti a value like 1.100.

I also removed the dumb magnifying glass from my version. I did not want the moving around on the map.

Thanks for the pic, but I still can't get it to work. :banghead: I've manually set the Emissive to the desired color, but it still displays orange in the GECK. :brokencomputer: I've also tried multiple values for EmitMulti, ranging from 0.1 (which makes it almost black) to 10000 (which makes it white) and the best I can do is change how brightly the orange color shows up. Why won't it display the new color? I am confused, bewildered and befuddled. And I'm about to pull the skin off of my head, since I've already pulled out all of my hair.

You missed changing 2 of the plexi textures. (There are 3 of them) They pointed to the orange texture. I also changed the emissive to blue.

You will have to go through and change the texture paths since I pointed them to the default /textures/ main folder.
I also noticed you have the full texture path in the NIF. That will not work if you release it unless the players also use the same folder path for their game. (Which I do not.)

Thank you so much! :foodndrink: I was about to pull my skull cap off (ran out of skin  ).

Yeah, I'm not sure what the problem there is. I keep instructing NifSkope to "Auto Detect Files Paths" and it keeps detecting Oblivion and FO3, but it just keeps giving an absolute file path for FO3 instead of a relative file path.

Thats odd.
But, you should be able to delete the stuff up to the 'textures' folder and it should be fine.
