Tieing the Underdark into TES

Post » Sat Oct 23, 2010 7:54 pm

I need help tieing the Underdark from AD&D Forgotten Realms into the TES universe.

I know this is blasphemy, blah, blah, blah but I need help on this.

My current tie in is Viconia DeVir, she was banished by Lolth to Tamriel and this weakened the threads between the two planes of existence. Now Lolth attempted to exploit this and was bainshed herself by the Seldarine along with the entire Underdark for their crimes against Faerun.

I need to tie all this in so that ya'll don't put out a hit on moi.

Help is appreciated.

I'm not going launch a tirade at you (and anyone who would can be blamed of some kind of misplaced chauvinism), but I do hope you realize the relative futility of this thread.

Firstly, trying to connect two totally unrelated stories is quite difficult to pull off nicely. Therefore, any solution someone might come up with is more than likely going to be a pile of poorly constructed weaselling that may very well be more harmful to your overall storyline than not giving any explanation at all.

Secondly, such a makeshift solution also requires people who want to help you to have an elaborate knowledge of the Underdark. I for one have only heard of the name and I do not have the faintest clue who the people you mentioned are. I suspect the situation may be similar to many other people here.

That's because you are under 40. Therefore you are titled, Noob. I bet you've never picked up a AD&D book in your life. Your loss.

Like TES came up with all of this. It is to laugh.

The two can very easily combine. One simply has to wish it so. Planar meddling is common amongst Gods. Your Noob gods are no more or less powerful than those of Forgotten Realms. Be a Lore feminine hygiene product, you simply lose. You lose a fantastic adventure or two or three or four or more.

I come in here asking for help and I get excrement. Wallow in your short sighted lore. Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Maybe listing a few of the hurdles that you will have to climb will help?

First AD&D is good/bad/neutral based - or if you like, evil lives. These are absolutes. Es can be good/bad and ambivalent depending on how you view various matters - in other words the actual nature of a god or individual is debateable.

AD&D have Gods/Goddesses - but I do not know of any metahysical structure other than that they have connections to certain aspects of things, like Nature or War or whatever and loads of Power and they decide and order just about everything on a basis of good/bad/neutral.

Power in AD&D is aligned. Power in ES works very differently - it is not aligned - just as petrol, electricity and coal have no alignment in RL

Magic in AD&D has no defined source. It is magic but it is aligned - as are all spells. In ES there is a specific source of 'magic' and it is called Magica. It is part of the Mytho-cosmology.

AD&D is about the struggle between good, evil and neutral. ES is about the politics of the mythology and physical and mythic structure of it's unique Cosmos which is divided into the Aurbis, Oblivion and the Mundus - with a lot of fighting thrown in for fun. And ES is defining those structures and redefining them as it goes along is great detail - such that people can virtually write Doctoral papers about the underlying metaphysics and mathematics thereof.

On the plus side there is no gigantic underground cavern system that stretches over half the continent of Tamriel though there are plenty of caves and dungeons.

Just a suggestion - find the Imperial Library - in the Elderscrolls.com homepage links and read the tens, maybe hundreds of books there - official, semi-official and fan. Or start reading the threads here that seem to interest you first - there are loads of links in them. This is assuming you have played a couple of the Elderscrolls games through at least. If you have not, then play Morrowind and Oblivion before coming back here. Guaranteed you will begin to understand the reactions you have received.

One cogent detail - It appears that various beings loosely described as Gods or daedra are co-terminus with the various realms of Oblivion and of Nirn. Indeed Nirn itself may be such a domain - so an 'invading' Goddess from another continuum might well have a tough time trying to insert her 'realm' into that god's body ... it may be imposible.

Actually many people will not feel comfortable about patching the two together in any arbitrary fashion because they are so involved with what has already been created of Nirn etc that any comparitively crude attempt to marry the two game would likely undermine the very things that they are so sensitive to.

hmm - I'm sure I know you - and that you have worked for a bit on an ES mod?

edit - ah I see - should have looked at your profile - silly me. I'm not trying to be negative about your idea - just looking at it from a practical point of view of the way the two systems work and the xtent to which you would likely have to '[censored]' both systems to effect a match

1999: Thanks for the reply. That is what I am looking for.

re: Lady Nerevar

Meant it. Every word of it. I respect the realm. I expect respect in return. 90% of the people in here have never even played AD&D, of which all RPGs are based. I get insults thrown at me and I am expected to lay down? I think not. I'm simply trying to appease the Lore Gods and I am turned into a chipmunk.

THANKS.

Respect your elders.

It is a real good job you edited your post as had you not you would have been looking at a warning. As it stands calling another member a Noob is classed as flaming, and making vulgar remarks is also ill advised.

As 1999 seems to have given you the answer you want I am going to close this before someone does warrant a PM from a moderator.
