How Many Quests?

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 7:20 pm

The way I see it alll of the named quests that appear in the pip-boy count as true quests. So I think there are 58 with all DLC. The others are known as unmarked, or repeatable quests which are short with small meaning or reward.

well you can count em if you want, but the first 5 quests are in the vault before you even get outside and that only takes and hour if that, baby steps ? birthday party ? lol they need to do better than that, thats turtorial, not really much quest feel to those, so yeah i don't even count em as quests, and i don't count dlc quests at all, i'm talking about the base game, fallout 3 didn't have very many quests, it just didn't, it felt lacking in the quest department, without even rushing and taking your time, its pretty easy to do all the quests by level 15 or 20 at the latest and the game has 30 levels so new vegas definately needs more "on the docket" so you're not out of quests at level 15 or 20.

In new vegas they are saying that they are trying to "get you out there" sooner, so I don't think there will be as many "beginner" quests.

I'd say an Oblivion sized number of quests since there are going to be mini-factions in New Vegas. Those are what really inflated the numbers for Oblivion. There'll be plenty to keep you occupied for 200+ hours.

exactly nate, fallout 3 they said would be 100+ hours of gameplay more or less and it does take about that long to fully explore the map area and do the quests, its pretty big, now pete hines said new vegas would offer several hundred hours of gameplay to fully explore and play so that number is like doubled or tripled compared to FO3 where they said was 100 hours, so i am definately expecting more of an oblivion size gameworld and quests, oblivion had a lot of big quests, the oblivion gates alone were pretty big jobs to do plus there were all kinds of quests to do large and small, unfortunately fallout3 had a lot of shortcomings you guys. but it was still an awesome game, however new vegas really should blow away fallout 3 in a lot of areas, i think its gonna suprise people a little bit. its gonna be like FO3 on steroids, everything about the game is bigger, better and more.

Good point. Just by virtue of having a higher default level cap New Vegas should have more quests than FO3 out of the box.

There is only one quest in the entire game.

they seem to be downplaying the quests in a way, they say, oh theres more quests but they are shorter or tied together different, well FO3 had 20 levels initially and not a lot of quests, prob 20 real quests if that, not counting "the birthday party" or "baby steps'' or "leaving the vault" those weren't exactly quests but they do show up as main story quests in the pip boy but seriously, i don't count those, it would be a huge mistake on their part to have the reviewers complain the game doesn't have enough quests like with FO3. FO3 was awesome and pretty big but it just had too much simplicity to it still, even though it had complex aspects a lot of it was kinda dumbed down for newbie type players. it needed more complex everything, new vegas is gonna be a more complex game and more of a serious RPG. in FO3 it was almost impossible to avoid having a super powerfull character by level 15 or so, the game got too easy, too early on, then you ran out of quests before you were leveled up. so it was an awesome game but i am seriously expecting more for NV.

Something else to consider with New Vegas is the fact that although it may very well have more quests than FO3, we can assume that some of those quests are going to be mutually exclusive. If you take certain quests for the NCR, you may be unable to take certain quests with Caesar's Legion. If you take certain quests from Mr. House, you may cut off quests from other factions. Do quests for the Powder Gangers? You might not get to do the NCR quest in that same area this play through.

I think it is safe to assume that not only will multiple characters be required to see all the possible outcomes of certain quests, but also to even DO all the quests. And that sounds awesome to me.

Yeah. At this point I couldn't even dream of playing a Bethesda title (and this Obsidian one) on something besides the PC, simply because of the mods. Every little annoyance ironed out, every dream or tweak fulfilled, new armor, weapons, areas, textures, every few months . . . I have become thoroughly addicted to and spoiled by mods every since Morrowind came out.
