Daggerfall black screen

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 2:19 pm

Whenever i try to load daggerfall (im using DOSBox) all I get is this black screen. I wait like 20 secs to check if it's just loading or something like that. but nothing.

I followed the install instructions exactly, so it can't be any installation errors or anything like that.

someone help me? :shakehead:

also, when it loads in dos it says something about windows not present. whats up wiyh that?
could it be causing my prob?

It's supposed to say Windows not present, since you're loading it in a simulated DOS environment. It's checking for Windows 3.1, anyway.

I get the initial black screen as well; it only takes about 15 seconds to clear, but I'm on a pretty ridiculous machine. Just give it about a minute, or speed up your DosBox (Ctrl + F12 I believe) while you wait to see if it gives you the load screens.

Arena will give a black screen if you try to run it from C:\ instead of C:\[folder]\, so that could be case here too.

I tried what you suggested, but ive had to wait 5 minutes and nothing has happened still.

I am on a reletively slow comp, but even on my comp i shouldn't have to wait so long.

The other thing you might try is going from fullscreen to windowed a few times, back and forth.

Alt + Tab will do it.

I get an "error 0" message, and then subsequent attempts to play simply tell me I have a critical error and I need to delete and reinstall. I don't know what that means. I'll try reinstalling, but for some reason I just have a bad feeling about this. I followed the instructions to the letter as well.
