Bethesda Making a Western Era Game?

Post » Sat Oct 30, 2010 10:53 pm

Ah, I only see the just joking now. I was going to say for you to try Shadowrun. That never took off well, I am surprised. Todays day, or the future a bit, and magic. Maybe because it was pure online why it never took off. I wanted a single player experiance, there wasn't one, so never got the game. Looks like other people were as well.

I'd love a modern day fantasy game, with orcs and goblins functioning in modern day society, just not Elder Scrolls, technology and fantasy co-exsisting. I'll look into Shadowrun

I have to say that I would love to see Bethesda do a open world western game, I think that they could make a great western. RDR is great but it's in third-person and has limitations to it. If Bethesda made a western and added in steampunk themes and maybe a little alien v. cowboy action, as well as some disease it could make a great fantasy western game more along their style. Or they could do just a non-fantasy western game which I think would still be great.

Sounds like a neat idea. A Western-Steampunk game á la Wild, Wild West

Never forget. :stare:

I'm still hoping for an open world sandbox Where's Waldo game from Bethesda.

A long time ago, there was hope for a zombie/demon western game, the only pities were that it's an MMO, and that it got cancelled. :sadvaultboy:

I would buy a western themed game made by Bethesda.
A sci-fi western would be even more kickass.

Then why do you find the game to be the exact same thing with some west textures? Did you not notice that storyline is better then any GTA game, better characters, better environments, beautiful scenery, better "moments" (like going into Mexico), no phones >.<, etc. What do you find better about GTA? It also seems very generic for you to just call it Grand Theft Horse like it wasn't improved at all, it's like those people that somehow think that New Vegas wasn't a huge improvement over Fallout 3.

I didn't say Red Dead Redemption was the same as Grand Theft Auto 4. I call it Grand Theft Horse is because the control seem similar to GTA4, but instead of cars there are horses.

I'm not sure Bethesda's style of sandbox would work in a western. They like making big worlds and filling it with tons of dungeons, and a western game would have to be more barren I'd think (though I haven't played RDR yet so I don't know how they did it). I'm not saying they couldn't do it, but it'd be a different kind of world than they're used to.

No they have only made TES and FO 3.

As for an western RPG, it would be cool to have an open world one simialr to Beth's style,

Wrong, they have made a few more. I only knew of Terminator. Here is a list of what they published and or developed.

Notable games published and/or developedSee also: List of Bethesda Softworks games

The Terminator (1990)
Terminator 2029 (1992)

Hunted: The Demon's Forge

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Wrong... and you were only one page away from the corrent list. Above that list is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bethesda_Softworks_games developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.

TES and Fallout are their most popular series but they're by far the only things they've made. IHRA Drag Racing, the Terminator series (which they no longer have the license for sadly), and so on.

I'm sorry if I sound shallow and pedantic, but it's not that hard to learn the difference between Bethesda the publisher and Bethesda the developer, and if you're going to register on their forums it's really something you should know.

My thoughts exactly. It's gonna be a monomental task to top Red Dead Redemption. I'd rather see Bethesda do an rpg on Bladerunner meets westerns (That would be awesome)

The medieval stuff is starting to get a little borring. I mean seriously, why do every single player rpg developer have to use it. I mean i like Morrowind and Oblivion, i am looking forward to Skyrim and i actually thought Fallout 3 was pretty damn borring but it's nice when someone make something other than the usual stuff. I didn't like Alpha Protocol either but atleast it was something new. But then again, i really like the Elder Scrolls. A Bethesda Western would mean that i would have to wait even longer for the next game so i would prefer if another developer did it instead. The setting is not even that important as long as it's just something new and fresh. Sure it could be a Western, it could also be Pirates, Superheroes, Horror etc.

And while i agree Red Dead was good, i don't doubt Bethesda could surpass Rockstar. I have always thought it was unfair that Rockstar was hailed as the kings of Open world games when in reality, most of the time, they are not even in the same leage as Beth.
