I too am wondering this. It would be nice to have the option to choose whether or not you want to use the extra stuff.

Are you talking about starting a new character that doesn't have the pre-order bonus items in his or her inventory?

I'm not sure how it would work, but you can probably turn them off. If not, you can always just drop them the first chance you get.

If you are worried about being tempted to go back and pick up the items later on, just do what I did with the Chinese stealth suit. Find big cliff or overpass, preferably over a large body of water, drop the item, lift it up, close your eyes and spin around, then release to throw. If you did it right, you'll never be able to find the item again.

I honestly think all the unique pre-order items are going to be in every copy of the game. It sounds like most will be able to found somewhere in the game world, the pre-order just starts you off with them already in your inventory. Maybe an item like the Vault 13 canteen can't be found anywhere else, but I bet it can be added to your character by using the console.

If the pre-order bonuses come in a module file, you'll most likely be able to deactivate it in the start menu, like any mods you'll use. If not, good question. :)

On console, unless there's a way to deactivate module, I doubt it'd be possible.

AFAIK they're set up like DLCs, and some of the preview videos showed a "DLC" button or somesuch on the title screen. So I'm fairly certain you'll be able to disable the preorder bonus by disabling the addon.

after doc Mitchell fixes you up he gives you some vault 13 armored jump suit and a pistol and whatever preorder bonus you got i.e caravan shotgun binoculars so you'll probably just have to drop it in a storage place or something

That would be an interesting way of handling the pre-order item. By making them modules that are loaded like a mod or DLC, that would avoid the problem of players being able to get all the items by using console commands.

Still, it seems like a waste for Obsidian to make all these neat items, weapons, and armor, and then have large amounts of the player base unable to ever see or experience them.

And I believe the DLC button shown on the title screen is there in preparation for actual DLC in the future, much like the Windows LIVE button was there in FO3 even before it was really used for anything.

I bet you can toggle them on and off in the files section before you launch the game like all DLCs and mods.

You could always just sell the extra items or throw them in a container in Mitchell's house. Hopefully they'll be an addition to the items you would normally receive instead of a replacement. I'm going to use my Tribal Pack items just because they don't seem as overpowered as the others.

ok to clear things up u only get the armored valt 13 gear if u pre-order it, and yes i could just drop it but the original game u start with stuff and i figure if i ever whant to play like super hardcoe mode i would whant to not start with my pre-order stuff and if u read into the pre order packs u will see that each pack comes with 1 costom armor and one costom wepon however i beleve the classic pack has a costom valt 13 cantina that is just a re-skin of other ones available in game as far as anything else the pack may include is all avalable in game.

Just sell the pre-order gear to the first merchant you get, then donate the caps? Idunno.

Following what a few others have said, just don't use anything he gives you and sell it ASAP.

Well, since with most pre-order content I have seen in the past, you enter a redeem code and then download it as a DLC. If you delete it off your hard drive, or wherever you stored it to, you will be able to play through the game without it. However, this would most likely render the game saves with those items corrupt, or as in with Fallout 3, the items in your inventory would just be deleted off of you.

I'd think dropping the gear or selling it right away will be the most likely solution.

the 360 has a history recovery system for downloads. Worked with my brutal legend love giver guitar, should work with the preorder pack.

from the sound of things theres only a few actualy unique items, and some "Semi unique" items

Vault 13 canteen (you can bascialy get a suit of armor within 30 min thats farily decent)

the shotgun, grenade lancher and weathered pistol are all aparently just variants of the existing gun,
the Armors are just variants of the armors,
everythig else is just aparently the exact same thing as is already in game

I, too, had this same question, because I want to start the game with the most dire situation I could. So I asked the people at Gamestop, and they said that their will be a code to redeem (for console versions), and by not redeeming it right away, you won't get the items right away. Now, there is the possibility that they are full of BS, but this seems plausible.

Like almost all pre-order bonuses out there, you will simply receive a code, either in the box or taped onto the box, that you have to enter into the correct area when you start up the game. There will likely be a redeem code area where you'll have to enter it. If you don't enter it, you don't get the items. Simply don't enter it in if you don't want to.
