FNV texture files are in the "dds" format. You need to have the dds plugin, which you can get at the nvidia.com support site. Once you have that, then the dds file should load correctly. However, if you can see the dds at all in photoshop, it may be right. Have you looked at uv-wrapped textures before? It can be a little disorienting. When you say "badly done" what exactly do you mean?
