Is Skyrim going to have actual patch support?

So basically with Oblivion we were left with a game that still had over 1,800 bugs when they stopped providing support for it.

Sadly, it was left up to the community to fix all of the remaining bugs which after years of work has become a must-have for all Oblivion PC players, the unofficial Oblivion patch (Found here http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296)

Now maybe it's just me but ceasing to provide patch support for the game when there was still 1,800 bugs left seems like a bit of a slimy move if you ask me..

But then they go on to release the Shivering isles expansion pack and all of the DLC for the game, which once again sadly was left full of a vast amount of bugs when they decided to stop releasing patches for it, once again it was left up to the community to patch all of these things and after years of work they were fixed with the Unofficial Oblivion Shivering isles patch and the Unofficial Oblivion mods patch.

Now mayyyybeee it's just me but it seems a bit slack to stop releasing patches for your game when it has over 1,800 bugs left unsolved and leaving it up to the community to fix these things.

Is Skyrim going to be the same or will it have real patch support this time around?

Many of those "bugs" weren't bugs. That unofficial patch was hardly a "must-have". Unless you were one of the unfortunate PS3 owners, there was only one glaring game-breaking bug that Bethesda never fixed, and chances are you'd never run into it. The unofficial patch didn't fix it, either.

It would still be nice though. Patch support would help to make the game feel more complete, and therefore would lead to more immersion. Although, not even needing patch support would be most excellent.
*sigh*
One can dream... :pinch:

In a game this size, they would have to continue providing patches for YEARS to solve the majority of the bugs. It's said that when you fix one bug, you create a dozen more. Oblivion was left in a very stable, very playable state, and any bugs remaining were minor at best.

Besides, be happy that the community saw fit to release the unofficial patches anyway.

A TES game wouldn't feel like a TES game to me if it didn't have some problem along the way.

Though, I'd like to see extended patch support. With a new engine, things could either go really smoothly or ungody hillarious. Either way, I'm excited.

Skyrim will most likely have the same patch support as its predecessors- did Oblivion and Fallout 3 differ greatly in patch support? (Seriously asking...I waited for GotY in both cases and skipped all the drama.)

And someone more "in the know" would have to back me up or shoot me down, but my understanding is that part of this apparent "Two patches, now we're done!" methodology stems from some restriction placed by Microsoft and/or Sony with regard to their consoles' gaming networks limiting how many patches one can issue without having to pay extra distribution fees, to prevent 'outsiders' from co-opting their networks for patch distribution. Now that's admittedly based on unconfirmed comments I've run across and fed through my own "Can't confirm, but I can see where it would make some degree of sense" filter, but...

 I'm with ya. It'll at least be entertaining (in some way) no matter what happens.
