Modifying an Eyepatch

Post » Wed Nov 10, 2010 2:06 pm

Hello,

I have been wanting to get an eyepatch mod for my character for quite some time. I noticed that http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1384 contains an eyepatch, however, it seems to me that the http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/Image.php?id=29478 are configured over the wrong eye in my character's case.

It might sound like I'm just being too nitpicky, but check out this screenshot and you will see what I mean. (I went through a lot of trouble of modifying Ren's Odd Eye, creating a unique race and editing the eye meshes in the construction set for the race so that I could get this to work- as well as creating a scarred facial texture.)

...Obviously that poor man would have to be crazy to put his eyepatch on the wrong eye. :P

Using the Construction Set or Blender (both I have access to), is it possible to flip or "mirror" the eyepatches included in this mod so that it will cover the opposite eye? If so, how would I go about doing it? If I can do that then I will have much fun with this mod- it will be the perfect companion to my poor blinded character.

Thanks for your time.

Irrelevant notes:

A while ago I created, with the help of a few other users, Drake the Dragon and Fearrabbit, another mod which further alters my character and gives him his characteristic mask from his original character design from my graphic novel. However, when I reinstalled Oblivion I haven't yet re-implemented his mask. I COULD, when I have the time to do it, but for now I would rather have him use a simple eyepatch until I get the time to re-configure his comformulated mask and whatnot. So that's why I am wanting to use this mod as it already includes what I wanted to use for the time being, which would save me time from making my own- which i could, except I don't have time.

I hope it is alright to bump this as I haven't yet gotten any responses, it's ok if no one knows how to help, I was just curious. But I felt it wouldn't hurt to bump this so that it might become apparent to someone who might feel like helping.

Yes it can be done ! Since the eyepatch is skinned to the head you would need to import it into blender (or MAX etc.) - mirror it on the X axis and then make a few adjustments to get it placed properly (by also importing the head for positioning) - Once it is in place where you want it - reskin (weight paint) the eyepatch to the head bone - and export it.

If I send you a copy of the NIF file with it done can you place it in game yourself or do you need it placed into a mod ?? -- If you need the mod made what type of item did you want it set up as (ie. an amulet or ring ) - do you want it droppable using the same model or would using a default amulet for the dropped model work ? - Do you want it just placed somewhere for you to pick up or sold by a vendor - If sold do you want it pre- enchanted and only the one available or should it be unenchanted so you can add an enchant and respawn so you can make more versions with different enchants ?

I made a test .esp with it setup as an amulet and dropped into the testinghall (using a default amulet for the world model - so when dropped it is currently an amulet instead of eyepatch) So I could make sure it was working properly --- http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/cc189/JDFanning_bucket/Oblivion2010-12-2611-20-27-81.jpg -- If that works I can send you the new NIF and that .esp or if you want something else done with it I can put together something in a day or so -- PM me and let me know.

Wow, I was just asking if it could be done, i wasn't expecting anyone to actually *do* everything. That's pretty awesome. :D Thank you so much!

I am fairly intuitive when it comes to this kind of thing as long as I have good instructions- I can figure out how to put it in-game myself, but the simpler it is the easier it is for me. I wouldn't want you to do any work with it, I usually try to do things myself unless I am extremely stuck. But if you feel up to it, just dropping it somewhere in the IC Market District would be interesting. My character would already have it "in-character", so it wouldn't be cheating to assume he's always had it. If you would have tome to set it up, I don't care what slot it takes up or what sort of item it is considered. I can probably figure out how to change it if I don't like it. I don't care if it is enchanted or not. I am weird, the main reason why I play Oblivion is to roleplay and take screenshots, so my focus is almost purely visual and I don't care that much about the actual gameplay aspects. :P

Thank you so much, I really wasn't expecting someone to actually go this far. :D

Sent you a PM with the download Link -- the patch is located on the counter in the Mystic Emporium. -- I included a world model and inventory icon and set it p as a tail slot item (since you are not using a tailed character - if needed just open in the CS and change the slot if you'd prefer ring or amulet slot instead.)
