Gameplay Mod

Post » Fri Nov 12, 2010 7:18 pm

What gameplay mods would you suggest? One which would enhance the gameplay obviously, specifically ones which make the game feel more like an RPG. Not looking for quest mods, just general gameplay ones (kinda like OOO for Oblivion, or that wasteland something mod for FO3), unless there's a quest mod which is actually recommended due to being that awesome.
The only mod right now which I've downloaded is the must-have DarN UI mod, obviously.

Thanks!

I see we have a congestion here!

Both seem interesting, I am undecided which one to choose! =/ Have you both used the mod you suggested? How does the game differ in practice when you play the game? (as in, I know what both of them change/add from the game, but how does it actually fit in in practice?)

I haven't played XFO so I can't tell you anything about that. Arwen's mod for New Vegas isn't complete yet but I've used the complete FO3 version for a long time.

With the realism core module weapons do more damage so battles are quicker and more dangerous. There's an optional feature to reduce all XP you gain by a certain percentage (default and recommended is getting 25% of all experience) to make progress slower. The AI has been made smarter (they don't blindly charge at you but take cover more). The Damage Threshold system has been tweaked to be stronger, so you notice it more when you or others wear good armor. Grenades have a larger exploding radius and always blow people off their feet. Weapon skill has a larger effect on the damage you do than before.

With the upcoming hardcoe module your initial skills will be reduced, you get 5 less SPECIAL points to distribute (making you truly 'average', like everyone else) and there will be less loot lying around.

Overall you start out weaker, you get rich less quickly because of the reduced loot, and because you get much worse deals with merchants if your barter skill is low. So the game is a challenge at all times. It's a harsher world with a larger focus on your stats, basically.

Both Arwen's and XFO do similar, if not the same things - I'd say that right now Arwen's has a much higher polish level, but XFO is much more modular. They're both great at what they do, though. I personally use XFO.

another vote for ART here. here's some ways it changed my game (for FO3 anyway, not much playing NV yet): money? never had enough, always had to save up even for basic healing and repairs. injuries? fear them. skills and stats? make them count, they matter much more. weapons? choose which since they have different effects now. wouldnt want to play without it really.

though i must confess to keeping an eye on XFO's skill=accuracy not damage module since i believe its to be more realistic and RPG-like. that's another good thing about XFO. the modular nature allows you to mix and match with other mods to get what you want.

Of course, project vegas (when its released) will also doubtless be quite popular and something i will definitely try on at least 1 character
