Reference to Skyrim in Shivering Isles

Post » Wed Nov 17, 2010 2:07 pm

Having just gone back thru OB and SI I noticed something of minor note. In SI there is dead wood elf that holds the following letter:

"Lord --
I regret to inform you that my return may not be as swift as originally hoped. As you know, I have been summoned away on family business, the full nature of which was not known to me when the courier's message arrived. Now that I am here, it is clear that I will need to spend at least a few days longer before leaving.

I know that you'll insist on knowing the specifics of my absence, so I'll spare us both the headache and disclose them now. The family member is an older cousin -- technically the patriarch of my family -- who has been working tirelessly on restoring our family crypt following the death of his mother. Knowing my interest in stonework, he was keen to enlist my help with certain deterrents he has been installing, and having seen the work to be done, I know it will be enough to fill the better part of a week.

On a personal note, the ruins themselves are fascinating. I hope to get the time to take down some sketches -- you recall the drawings from my journeys last year, of course. Oddly, I can't remember anything about my trip after meeting my escort, but I'm told that this site is very near the border, although this structure is unlike any of the Nord ruins I'm familiar with, and the air is stifling hot for a Skyrim structure. Perhaps you and I can research this further when I return.

I hear my name being called -- I'd better go see what is needed and have this letter handed to a courier before any more time passes. I hope it finds you well.
- G. Malifant"

Does it matter? Can't see how this relates to Skyrim the game in any way :)

That is a reference to New Vegas. He gives the letter to the courier. He must have been the one who gave you the platinum chip.

Seems like a possible reference to a Dwemer ruin. Those places always had some lava heat going on. But I'm probably just reading into it.

Nah, man. This letter is found inside a ruin on the Shivering Isles. The point is that the writer doesn't know that he's on the Isles -- he thinks he's close to the border of Skyrim. ;)

I don't think so. They both involve a courier, but I don't see any similarities beyond that. Besides, Beth didn't work on NV.

Yeah. There are about a thousand other references to the province of Skyrim throughout the games. You even go to Skyrim in Arena.

Has absolutely nothing to do with Skyrim the game though.

I beleive that is from the ruin EBROCCA. easily the best dungeon in the game for complexity, immersion, lore, atmosphere.

Doesn't seem to point to Skyrim to me just mentions the province, it could equally be a Dunmer talking about Vvardenfell.

Sarcasm. Also Beth undoubtedly had some hand in NV other than QA but that's more under the shadows type details. Most people don't really care if a team was helped by another if the end product is good(Other than bugs and the engine it was@NV)

As for the reference. Cool? Maybe a hint to a character you'll bump into.
