Fix for White Pixels/Specks/Dots (Nvidia Users)

Post » Thu Nov 18, 2010 9:20 pm

1. Download Nvidia Inspector
2. Launch it and call up the New Vegas profile
3. Set Anti-aliasing compatibility (both normal and DX10.. I did it for both as I heard the dll fix I'm using for the slowdowns sets the game to DX9 mode) to "0x200100C5"
4.(Optional) For SLI users, I have both of the sli compatibility yokies set to "0x42800005".. dunno if that'll help framerates but I just changed them in hopes that the white specks would go away.. and they did.. probably a coincidence.
5.(Optional) Turn the Anti-aliasing behavior flags to "None"... again this could be completely irrelevant but it works so no harm in trying it. Perhaps someone could advise me on whether setting it to "None" is perfectly fine.
6. Hit "Apply Changes".

And that fixed those annoying white speckle things on the edges of objects in the game when anti-aliasing is enabled.

Alternatively, add the New Vegas binaries to the fallout 3 profile, or duplicate said profile and point it at the New Vegas binaries.

Poor timing on release, nvidia JUST released on the day prior. Might be a while before they can get an update out with a built-in profile.

FYI, D3D9 has a specific code in the default profile: "00001000: Fallout3, H.A.W.X."

Either way, I still get the occasional flash. Huh.

Haven't had anymore flashes myself. Admittedly I'm using 3d vision and which may or may not factor into it.
I'm very interested in what exactly your referring to regarding binaries and how one would go about doing the pointing method..I've got the flashing speckle bug in a lot of other games..even in minecraft! so I'm trying to research every possible way of fixing a game.

Worked for me using a GTS 450. No more edge specks, no more flashes! Thank you.

Can you expand on step 3.
How do you "Set Anti-aliasing compatibility"
I don't see any options related to that.

options
Anti-aliasing
behavior flags
Gamma correction
Line Gamma
mode
setting
Transparency multisampling
Transparency supersampling
