how to change the model of a gun

Post » Sat Nov 20, 2010 2:19 am

when I hit button EDIT, next to the model name, it pops up a window so i can choose a .NIF file. I look for the fallout 3 meshes, but the file does not show up.
I have extracted them with FOMM, but the problem is, I do not know where to put them, so the GECK does not say INVALID DIRECTORY.

any suggestions on what to do would be helpful

i know where they are at, they just don't show up when i try to change a model in GECK.

e.g.
i find a weapon, right-click it and pick edit.
A window pops up, has the ID at the top, the Name of the weapon, etc.
Pick the ART AND SOUND tab.
In that tab, there is a part where you can edit the model, by pressing the EDIT button
when i push EDIT, another window pops up, it shows me the DATA folder of Fallout 3.
but i don't see the meshes or sounds, etc. I can only see them when i'm not searching for them in GECK.
I what to know if i have to extract or something, in order to choose them in GECK.

Sorry if it doesn't make since.

They have to be in the exact correct folder if you are going to use the vanilla meshes.

If you see no 'meshes' folder, then you do not have them in the right game folder. If you have Vista or W7, and you installed the game in the default program files folder then that could be a problem in itself since the files would not be written to the games folders correctly.

If you have Vista or Windows7, AND you installed your game in the default directory, then you will never see the mod in the data folder.

The GECK is NOT part of the game so the OS sees it as a virus or trojan program trying to change FO3 game files. This is not allowed by the OS.

Solution? Pick "one" of these:

1. Install your game to your Root C: drive. Like C:\Games\Fallout3\ or another drive entirely if you have one.
2. Remove the security from your OS and then you can join the XP computer ranks and become a Zombie computer. *Not recommended.
3. In your \Fallout3\Data\ folder, look at the top right. There should be a button called 'Compatibility Files'. Click that to find your mod. You can then copy it from there to your Data folder.
4. Run the GECK in Administrator mode. Right-click on the icon and select, Run as Administrator.

===============

Now, if you want to install the Fallout3 game somewhere else per #1 above without loosing your current mods you have installed, you can do this:

1. Move your existing \Program Files\Fallout3\ to your C root drive in a new folder that you need to create called C:\Games\ It should look like this after the move: C:\Games\Fallout3\
2. Rename the folder you just moved in step 1 to C:\Games\Fallout003\
3. Uninstall the game. Check the option to keep your save game files. This will clear the registry and not remove any game folders because you moved them somewhere else.
3. Re-install the game to C:\Games\Fallout3\
4. After the reinstall is done, DELETE the just installed folder at C:\Games\Fallout3\
5. Rename the folder from step 2 above to C:\Games\Fallout3\

If done right, this will change the Registry to the new game folders location, plus keep everything you currently have in the protected folder location.

WARNING: If you are not computer saavy, then find someone who is to do the above for you. Or ask more questions.

I think i'm cursed

I'm going with plan B (to rename the fallout 3 folder, and uninstalling, etc.)
The problem is: I can't find the uninstall button. Do i Uninstall from the CD? Because, when i run the CD it says "Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its features" and i do not like the sound of that

sorry for bugging you so much, I'm a BIG noob at this stuff :)
