Youtube error in Firefox

Post » Sun Nov 21, 2010 7:39 am

It started happening after this latest update (Firefox 3.6.15). After I start playing a Youtube video, if I got to another tab then click on a window that's not Firefox (or even sometimes Firefox, like the Minimize button), the Youtube video pops up over top of everything in the top left corner.

The Youtube video: http://oi53.tinypic.com/2wnp64z.jpg

After I went to this tab then clicked on Excel: http://oi53.tinypic.com/mr32f9.jpg

It doesn't do it if I'm on the Youtube tab. It'll stay there until I click back on the Youtube tab, then I need to move Firefox off of the screen to "reset" the graphics (to get my Back/Forward button icons back)

Any ideas?

Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3
Firefox Addons: AdBlock Plus, Hide Google Options, JavaScript Debugger, Menu Editor, NoScript, Download Helper, Flash and Video Download

It seems to me that some of the Firefox addons is crashing, because that was happen to me when I updated Firefox to 3.6.14 and Adobe Flashplayer begin to crashed in almost every embedded youtube video.

I suggest that you should check your installed addons and probably remove/deactivate some of them or install new ones to gain some stability with Firefox. :)

Have you tried loading Fx in safe mode (which disables all the add-ons) and seeing if the problem is still there? If not you can enable them one at a time until you find the culprit.

This Firefox release is a security release and the last of the Fx 3.6's - very soon, probably next week they are releasing Firefox 4 RC which would be best to update to - in fact you can go to Fx4.0b12 now if you want - it is stable and a lot better than 3.6

Just tried it in safe mode and it still happened.

I didn't realize they were releasing Firefox 4 shortly. Maybe I'll switch over to that.

This latest 3.6 update is in light of the Pwn2own hacking contest coming off where they see who can take down the major browsers the fastest - Fx 4 is not included. :)

Haha. Love Firefox. I just downloaded it and I'm on it right now. Fixed the Youtube problem and, since most of my addons are compatible, my performance is up haha.

....nevermind. Still pops over. Gonna put it in safe mode.

Firefox 4.0b12. All add-ons disabled. Still get the Youtube video popover. Frustrated.

Use google chrome. My girlfriend got a huge virus on her computer because of a pop up. It was a pop up in the bottom right hand corner of her computer where you usually scan for viruses. She thought that there was a virus on the site and was going to scan for it, but it turns out that it was a pop up with a virus in the form of a virus scanner. Her computer has never been the same....

It's not a problem with a virus and I've never had any issues like this with Firefox before. It's most likely a problem with Youtube and Flash, though I haven't checked out any other flash players.

This is a little off topic, but also related to Firefox errors since the last update. Now when I'm on the forums, the scroll bar doesn't move when I try dragging it, although the page still moves. Anyone else had this problem? Doesn't happen on any other website . . .

I just updated it, though I'm pretty sure there was an automatic update when I booted up this morning. I'm on Adobe Flash Player 10.2.152.32 and it's still popping up.

....though it doesn't seem to be doing it if I put the video in another Firefox window and minimize it....weiiiird. I'm gonna have to keep experimenting, but I gotta get back to actually working. I'll be checking the thread from time to time.

Do you have an ATI graphics card you recently updated? Firefox kept crashing on me on YouTube after I updated my drivers until I restarted my computer.

It's an integrated Intel 82915G Express Family Chipset video and I can't remember the last time I updated it.

Edit: Updated my graphics driver and it seems to be working now. I still don't know what started it, but whatever, it works now.
