3D monitors

Post » Tue Nov 23, 2010 11:43 pm

I've been seeing a lot of games with 3D options coming out lately and as such I'm considering upgrading. My question is weather any of them are worthwhile.

Here are some things I need from a monitor:
Two HDMI ports
At least one DVI port
Audio out from the HDMI

Also, are there any 3D monitors out yet that don't require glasses? Or am I thinking too far into the future? :P

Thanks!

Prototypes only (OLED 3D TVs) and I'm sure it would cost you :P

Currently I suggest the http://www.guru3d.com/news/acer-gn245hq-3d-monitor-with-hdmi-3d-for-nvidia-/

Audio out from the HDMI

Sorry I can't help you here, but what is this suppose to mean? It's HDMI, why do you need an Audio out for HDMI? HDMI is sound and video together, so why do you need an output? :geek:

Like from the monitor is what I mean. :P

My current monitor has a headphone type jack which I use to pipe the sound through my PC speakers.

The monitor doesn't make sound, your PC does, just plug your PC into your PC speakers... am I missing something?

Nope, nothing.

The only reason some monitors include a 3.55 mm headphone jack is so you can plug your headphone into it [i]when using your monitor's built-in speakers and your tower doesn't have a front-facing jack. In all other instances you are better off plugging your speakers directly into your tower (as then you'll have options for 5.1 and 7.1 instead of just the Stereo offered by a headphone jack)

I plug my Xbox into my monitor, thus the need for a jack.

And this:

Would solve that need.

Sorry, you actually need this too:
http://www.buy.com/prod/hdmi-cable-rca-audio-adapter-dongle-compatible-w-microsoft-xbox-360/q/sellerid/29345858/loc/101/216778383.html
More MS proprietary BS. I had googled this recently and came across someone saying that just using the RCA outputs worked, but googling again, everyone says it doesn't, and you need this. Luckily it has come down in price a lot from when it used to be $30.
